St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal
Thank you for your strong support of the St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal run by the College towards the end of last term, with our collectors being inundated with goods for the appeal! Donated goods were received by the St Vincent de Paul Collection and Retail Centre at Brookvale who were full of praise for our students and the College community.
A special thank you to the Year 9 Student Empowerment Team, Collection Team and Design Team who played an integral part in the day-to-day running of this initiative.
Centacare: The last week of the Term 2 holidays saw Year 10 and 11 students engage in community work for Centacare Industries, a facility run by CatholicCare that employs people living with intellectual disabilities. Under this program SPX students had the chance to engage and work with Centacare employees, helping to shape their Social Justice perspectives.
All students who have been involved in Centacare this year are to meet Mr Mulheron and Mr Balboa at lunchtime on Thursday to sign up for the Blackmores Sydney Running Festival. A reminder that participation in the Festival is compulsory, and forms part of our commitment made to Centacare.
Willowood Centre: A letter and Certificate of Appreciation have been received from Willowood Centre in Chatswood in recognition of generous contribution of students and staff to Willowood's Leisure, Lifestyle and Activities Department.
Mr Ryan Balboa - Social Justice Coordinator
Since November last year, on the fourth Sunday of each month in school term, Fr Jim has invited the students to “takeover” the weekly 5:30 pm Youth Mass in the Chatswood Parish. Each month the Masses are well attended by a large number of our students, with an emphasis on the involvement of our students.
We encourage all the students to be aware of the opportunity of coming to Mass on the fourth Sunday of each month in term time. Consider coming along - come and see, and be involved with your community.
The next Student Mass is THIS Sunday Sunday 28 July at 5.30pm, followed by a BBQ and Social Activities from 6:30 – 8:00pm. If you would like to be involved see Mr Adrian Brannan, the parish would love to welcome you and help you participate in and celebrate your faith with your mates.
