Outstanding Student Results!

This year's VCAL and VCE results and our annual Awards Night have demonstrated again that Melton Secondary College students can achieve academic excellence. This year the college can be proud of an 11% increase in the number of students who have successfully completed their VCAL units and a huge 17% increase in the number who achieved VET units. In the VCE, we have seen four years of increases in the median study score. In 2015 our median study score was 24. Since then it has risen steadily and this year we have achieved a median of 28. This represents outstanding growth in the quality of work done by students and outstanding teaching and support from staff. At Wednesday's Awards Night we saw a long line of students who had achieved excellent results and we are very proud of our two College Dux, Winona Duka and Jilian Ng each having achieved an ATAR of 90.

Senior Student Art Exhibition

Congratulations to senior Art students for the wonderful exhibition of their work on display earlier this month. It was great to speak to students about their work and to see the way that their creativity and thinking has progressed over the course of the year. We are especially proud that a number of our Year 12 Studio Art students have gained places in fashion, architecture and design courses for 2019. Well done to VCE Art teachers, Ms Leuenberger and Ms Panagenis for some very inspiring teaching.

School Holiday Programs

As we reach the end of the school year, parents and students will be thinking of things for young people to do to entertain and occupy their time in January. Students recently had an insight into three fantastic holiday programs on offer. The Mushroom Group are running a rap music workshop from 14th - 25th January at the Melton Indoor Recreation Center. Rap artist Krown gave a taste of what is on offer at On Track with an impromptu performance to Year 7 & 8 students earlier this week. Melbourne Victory are running a five day soccer program from 16th January. The Western Bulldogs are running their GOAL mentoring program over the holidays. Learn more about this at http://www.westernbulldogs.com.au/news/2018-11-25/dogs-launch-goal. Finally, Melton City Council Youth Services are also running a summer holiday program.

STARR Values in our Community

Melton Secondary College students are striving to be positive ambassadors for the school by demonstrating our STARR Values in the community. Areas which our students commonly visit like Woodgrove shopping center are excellent places for these values to be on display. Everyone appreciates it when young people are courteous and helpful. An example of this was when Ms Shefket and Ms Robinson-Conlon recently took their classes to Woodgrove to interview shoppers and received some wonderfully positive feedback. Of course appreciation goes both ways and MSC students have really appreciated donations received from Woolworths during this year that have gone towards our Health and PE program and from Bunnings who have supported our Hands on Learning program. Many of the retailers at Woodgrove also offer work placements and part time employment to MSC students. It is terrific when partnerships such as this give young people constructive  roles in their community which they can learn from.  We are so very proud of our students when they show active and positive citizenship.

Have a restful holiday and joyful festive season!
