Athletics Carnival

On Tuesday 7 May we participated in the athletics carnival for students with intellectual disabilities at Campbelltown Athletics Centre,  Leumeah.  Students competed in 100, 200 meters track events, as well as discuss and long jump field events. Our students showed respectful and responsible attitude towards all activities and had a successful day.

Tommy's dream

Tommy Duong graduated from Cecil Hills High School Support Unit in 2017. Tommy had a dream to study at a university - he achieved that dream and here is his story:

Tommy  fulfilled his dream by working with University of New South Wales lecturer in Art and Design, Karen Kriss and collaborating with other members of disability support and community service provider, The Junction Works, on a 3D animation called Dream States.

With the help of Karen Kriss, Tommy and the other students have had access to equipment and processes used to create Dream States  which are normally limited to professional film productions, given the high tech and skill levels involved.

By guiding the artists through the process and giving them access to the necessary tools, Ms Kriss was able to assist the artists to create their own characters and animations from scratch, using collage, drawing, sculpture and motion capture.  Ms Kriss is really impressed by the artists’ abilities.

Tommy's piece is an animated character, Red Lipped Betty Burger,  with purple paintbrush legs.  Tommy's family are extremely proud of him.  His brother Paul says that Tommy has worked many hours on the project.  Tommy is still with Junction Works and we wish him well for his  future.  Congratulations Tommy!  Cecil Hills High School is also very proud of you.

Red Lipped Betty Burger is on display at VIVID Sydney - part of the Dream States display which is beaming across from Tumbalong Park on the side of the International Convention Centre , Darling Harbour.
