Last week all classes started lessons on the You Can Do It Program. This program is aimed to help the students to be successful and happy. The first lessons focussed on -
What is the meaning of Success?
The older students learn about the importance of having a Growth Mindset while the younger students are beginning to understand the importance of putting in effort to achieve success.
A Parent Support sheet is included in this newsletter and I recommend everyone having a read. The title is: “QUALITY PARENTING ENHANCES SCHOOL ENGAGEMENT”
Last Monday we had the opportunity to work with the school leaders on the concept: What is a school leader? We discussed and reflected on ideas such as: what is effective leadership, the student’s strengths and challenges and future activities for all students to participate in. The morning allowed the leaders to see themselves as a group who can promote and lead activities which all members of our school community have the opportunity to participate in. The student leaders have discussed a range of activities which will take place throughout the school year. These activities and events will be promoted at assemblies and around the school. We ask you to speak with your child and encourage them to approach any student leader if they feel they have an idea which will promote and enhance the wellbeing of all members of our school. Thank you for your support.
Our school leaders for 2020 - Mary Dinatale (5/6OS) and Luca Ciavarella (5/6MM). Below are their welcoming speeches from our Leaders Assembly.
Hello and welcome to the first assembly of 2020. On behalf of all of the leaders we give a warm welcome to the new families here at St Fidelis Primary School. We hope your time here is special, exciting and filled with great memories.
My name is Mary and I am one of the school leaders for 2020. I enjoy acting, watching Star Wars with my family, sewing, and many other crafty things. I am 11 years old and am extremely honoured to be given the responsibility of School leader.
I was keen to be a school captain because I thought I could really bring some of my best attributes to help contribute towards this beautiful school. I have been at St Fidelis for a long time and will be extremely sad to leave this lovely place. St Fidelis really feels like a community and I know that all the teachers, families, students and even people who are new to the school will feel that too. I am also looking forward to working with the other leaders, Mrs Watson and the younger children.
This year I hope I can implement some ideas to help grow this school and community. One idea I have is: that each week we might have one indoor club that alternates between arts and crafts, chess, board games, cards, LEGO and many more.
The leaders are always willing to listen to any ideas and feedback you may have for them, so feel free to have a chat.
On behalf of all the leaders we wish the community of St Fidelis another fantastic school year with lots to look forward to.
Good morning students, teachers and parents.
Before I begin I would like to welcome everyone back to St Fidelis. I would also like to give a special welcome to everyone new to St Fidelis especially our new teachers and new Preps.
My name is Luca and I have been elected as St Fidelis’ 2020 school leader. Since starting at St Fidelis in 2014, I have been class library monitor and social justice leader – this is when I started to learn about Year 6 leadership positions. Over my time here at St Fidelis I have seen other school leaders help, encourage and create a friendly environment and I count on continuing their work.
This year I am going to try to make St Fidelis a positive learning environment so if you would like some assistance, I would be happy to help anytime, just ask!
Thank you for taking some time to listen and welcome to St Fidelis, 2020!
