Meet us!
Who are we?
written by J Dunn, PDHPE Teacher
Year 7 2017 Adviser
The PDHPE faculty have just kicked off in the fourth quarter (also known to the rest of the school community as Term 4). We have had a very productive and busy year thus far both on and off the playing field. The final quarter of the year is sure to be filled with more productive, fun and educational experiences in Sport and PDHPE.
As a faculty we pride ourselves on keeping the students at Cecil Hills High School healthy in a holistic sense. As much as we love to get out on the field and teach the students about the benefits of physical activity, we also love to help our students become successful members of society. We offer a number of subjects within our faculty that teach students about health and nutrition, outdoor education, resistance training, body systems, how to face challenges, how to develop resilience, how to help others in times of need, how to make sensible decisions, dealing with mental health issues, how to be safe on our roads, how to set goals in order to be successful and many more. It is via the subjects we offer and the programs and extra-curricular activities we run that we are able to achieve this.
Upcoming this term we have a number of great activities, assessment tasks and events that students will participate in. Currently our Year 7 students are learning about ‘Healthy Habits’ and how to make more informed food choices in accordance with the Australian Guide to Healthy Eating; Year 8 are learning about how to be ‘Happy with Me’ and being mentally healthy; Year 9 are learning about how ‘Risky Relations’ and how to communicate and be safe in relationship; and Year 10 are currently learning about ‘Challenging Times’ and have been working really hard on their speeches that advocate for groups amongst Australian society that experience discrimination. Our Year 11 students have now become our new year 12 students after completing their Preliminary Examinations at the conclusion of term 3. We look forward to assisting them achieve pleasing results throughout their HSC courses. Our HSC students have just commenced their examinations and our Community and Families Studies students were the first from our courses to sit their examination. We wish them all the best of luck and we know they will do us all proud as they have worked extremely hard in preparation for ‘the big dance’.
In the fourth quarter we have some exciting excursions and extra-curricular programs which will be engaging and beneficial for students across the school. These include FAST (Fitness and Sports Training, more information regarding this program in the next newsletter), Rock and Water program, Western Sydney Wanderers Cup, Year 7 Swim School and Year 10 Surf Camp.
