From our Principal
Learning Focus
These past few weeks I have been able to visit more classes and meet with more students. It is clear to me that the focus on teaching and learning is very strong, and that staff are committed to ensuring that classes are engaging for students. I have seen group dances, media presentations, maths competitions, motors being disassembled and reassembled, collaborative work, individual presentations and much more. Additionally, staff have been working in teams to plan and prepare and have a renewed focus on “questioning” as a part of their improvement plans for this term.
Child Safety Standards
The Child Safe Standards (the Standards) commenced in Victoria in January 2016. Recently changes have been made to make our Standards even stronger. The new Standards set out minimum requirements and outline the actions organisations, including schools, must take to keep children and young people safe. They provide clarity for organisations and are more consistent with Standards in the rest of Australia. The College works to ensure that we are compliant with these standards. Information for families about the Child Safe Standards can be found at:

Parent Opinion Survey Each year the school conducts an opinion survey with the school community. Results will be used to inform and direct our future school planning and improvement. Details on how to access the survey are located on the Compass Portal. The survey will be open until September 16. I ask you to please take the time to complete the survey as your opinions are important to us and will contribute to the future management and organisation of our school. Thank you to those families who have already completed the survey. Please be assured that your responses are completely confidential. Your feedback is important to us.
Production
The curtain has come down on this year’s College production of “Urinetown”. Needless to say the performances were outstanding and the energy and passion that the cast and crew brought to the show was remarkable and contagious. Congratulations to all involved: the staff for their commitment and energy, families and volunteers for their support and encouragement and to the students who always bring their best. You should all be so proud!
States Schools Spectacular
The Victorian State Schools Spectacular is a proud tradition in government schools and offers students the opportunity to take part in an extravaganza involving music, dance, giant puppetry, skating, acrobatic and circus acts to be performed to an audience of thousands on Saturday 10 September.
After being cancelled last year, this year 3000 students from over 200 Victorian government schools will be returning to the stage for a live arena performance.
Ringwood Secondary College will be strongly represented in this year’s performance. Congratulations to the following students on their selection for this year’s extravaganza.

Meeting with local politicians
In recent weeks I have had the opportunity to meet and converse with Will Fowles MP. Will is the local labour Candidate for Ringwood in the upcoming state election. Will visited the school to perform the official “sod turn” for the new STEM building and was receptive the College vision for upgrades to our indoor sporting facilities and Ringwood Training Centre.
Additionally, I have also met and shared the College vision with The Honourable David Hodgett shadow Minster for Education and Cynthia Watson in the lead up to the state election.
