School Advisory Council

The School Advisory Council (SAC) continues to meet monthly with the most recent meeting held Tuesday 02 August.  The forum provides essential connection, commitment and consensus to support St John’s Primary School and all of its students.

With a number of new members this year the Council is taking the opportunity to complete team formation activities and create a new charter that will not only set a clear purpose and refreshed goals but also add an element of fun.

Since the parent community survey, the Uniform Sub-Committee has assessed the results, identified updates and worked on designs and samples that are now under review.  Exciting final uniform changes will be communicated in Term 4 and phased in over 2 years starting in 2023.

St John’s Primary School is proudly celebrating 150 Years!  To further recognise our strengths and achievements from 1872 - 2022 we are forming a Sub-Committee of school community volunteers to help with events and communication.  There are several ideas and actions underway but we highly encourage your input and will also need your help to make the events a success.  Please contact us if you’re interested in joining the committee.  There will be more opportunities to volunteer to assist during events.  Stay tuned for more details.

It’s pleasing to report consensus has been reached on management of funeral parking during school times.  The electronic gate may be open for up to 30 minutes, monitored by camera, during non play times for funeral parking in the bitumen area.

Completion of the recent major building works has seen all students enjoy the wonderful improvements to their school facilities and environment. We’re now creating a comprehensive plan focused on maintenance and ensuring we’re focused on the right priorities at the right time.  If you have skills and experience in this area and could spare some time to walk the school with Verona Gridley and Yvie Williams to contribute to a maintenance list that would be appreciated.

Promotion of our school for 2023 Prep enrolments is in progress with advertising, Kinder visits, student reading events, website updates and more will be done on social media and the Parish newsletter.  Please continue to promote our school and if you have any additional marketing ideas let us know.

Verona recently presented the latest child safe standards and the school has successfully implemented the 11 standards in July.  Child Safety is a standing agenda item discussed every meeting and we will continue to promote awareness of the standards.

Student wellbeing has also been a regular agenda item.  Our school community was interested in hearing more about reinforcing positive behaviours and what behaviour management processes and tools the school has in place.  If you missed the feature via the newsletter or have any questions please contact Verona Gridley or Emma Pattison.  A friendly reminder not to miss the Parent Information Session with Patrice Wisemen - Resilience and Behaviour Consultant.

In preparation for the school policy audit this year our teaching staff have been very busy reviewing and updating policies ensuring they remain current.  All updated policies will be shared at future SAC meetings.

Next meeting: Tuesday, 13 September
