An Update on Debating......

On the evening of Wednesday 20 July, the DAV Interschool Debating Competition (Ringwood region) held its last debates for the 2022 season. Both teams performed at an exceptionally high standard and our debaters are to be congratulated on their efforts this year.

A Grade Team - round 5

The A Grade team, comprising Sophie Jones, Daniel Seymour and Marisa Hagihara, argued the topic ‘That workplaces should be legally required to provide lunches.’ Mullauna took the negative stance, and with only 60 minutes to prepare, Mullauna had a convincing win against Yarra Valley Grammar School. Sophie Jones was awarded best speaker.

In B Grade, our team debaters Casper Potgieter-Strachan, Matilda Ridgway and Alex Sayle competed against Yarra Valley Grammar School and argued the affirmative position on the topic ‘That politicians should not be elected but chosen using artificial intelligence.’ The team delivered compelling arguments but were narrowly defeated by Yarra Valley Grammar School.

A special thank you to my fellow coach, Tamsin Davidson, who supported the A Grade students and attended the evening debates.
