Student Wellbeing for Engaging Literate Learners

GGSS kids are kind.

Positive Behaviour for Learning Lessons

PBL supports those with challenging behaviour and believes that there is a reason behind this behaviour and all people have the right to be treated with dignity and respect, have lives of quality, and receive effective services. Dignity and respect do not need to be earned but are freely given because of the humanity of each person.

In Issue 6, we investigated how bees are done at GGSS, which is a huge part of our PBL journey. Bees allow for that positive "spin" on behaviour and an incentive to do better. The process of handing out bees is a deliberate act to support great behaviours, where staff explicitly explain why the student is getting the bee, focussing on the behaviour or expectation achieved. Teachers underpin this with "whole class" bee rewards. Staff will create (with student input) a reward chart that allows classes to receive a whole class bee for achieving class expectations or for simply working as a team. Whole class bees support our specialist teachers.

Our behaviour focus for August are as follows:

Term 3 week 4: Focus - Be Responsible in all play areas.

Lessons: Beat the bell to the line-up area and follow the playground rules and expectations.

Students and staff were encouraged to take a walk down to our beautiful playground expectations boards and reflect on what the expectations and rules are. We have two boards with our school play expectations clearly displayed. Staff extended this into the eating areas and the requirements for a safe and respectful transition to play.

Term 3 week 5: Focus - Be Responsible in all play areas.

This week's lesson is chosen after our PBL team meet & look at behaviour data.  We are going to look at our eating routines and how we release students when they go to play.  The issues we are finding is the noise level in the UCA is very loud, with some students screaming, students are leaving to play without packing up lunchboxes and leaving a lot of rubbish around.

Term 3 week 6: Focus - Be Respectful in all play areas.

Lesson: Invite others to join in approved play.  Along with the value of kindness we love to see students including others to join in.  We teach them to play safe games at school that ensure everyone has a great lunch break.

Term 3 week 7: Focus - Be Responsible in learning settings.

Be an active learner and show attentive behaviour.  Remember to show whole body listening and ask questions to help with your understanding.

Term 3 week 8: Focus - Be Safe in all play areas.

Play by the rules and be sunsafe.

It is important to follow the rules for school games so everyone can have a great playtime.  Wearing your hat, shirts with collars and sleeves is also important to look after yourself.

Our weekly focus is on the term calendar & we will post it on Dojo & Facebook each week. If you would like to be part of our PBL team, please contact the school and chat to Michele Lyne.

We continue to celebrate positive behaviour among our classes, 5/6C celebrated filling their class beehive last week with hot chips and gravy, enjoyed on the coldest and windiest day of the week.
