Next Monday 8th August, students will celebrate the Feast of St. Mary of the Cross MacKillop with a whole school Mass at 10.00am. Parents are welcome to attend.
St. Mary of the Cross is Australia’s first Saint. Mary MacKillop became known as St. Mary of the Cross when Pope Benedict XVI canonised her in 2010. She was a Catholic nun who, together with Father Julian Tenison Woods, founded the Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart. St Mary of the Cross and Fr Woods opened their first school in Penola, South Australia. From there, they founded other schools for children who were poor, especially in country areas. They taught about God’s love and being faithful to the Gospels.
The Sacrament of Confirmation will take place on Sunday 18th September at Mary Help of Christians Church. Students wishing to receive the sacrament must be baptised and have received the Sacraments of Confession and Eucharist.
Thank you to those who attended the enrolment Masses last weekend. Students who were unable to attend Mass last weekend will be contacted to make arrangements to enrol, as it is a Parish requirement.
Real Talk visited the Year 4 and 6 students at our school yesterday, Wednesday 3rd August, discussing topics of self worth, personal identity, good decision-making and cyber-safety. These very informative sessions were well received by the students. We thank JP and Kirsten from Real Talk Australia for their time, energy and passion in educating young people.
The closing date for reading is: Friday, 19 August 2022. That's 2 more weeks only!
If you have elected to complete this with your child at home, please ensure all the books are uploaded by this date. The system will not let you add books after this date to be included in this year's challenge and this only leaves a week for the library staff to validate the reading log. Thank you.
Children's Book Council of Australia (CBCA) Book Week is in Week 6 this term! So, dust off the costumes for your favourite book character and get ready for the best books for Australian children winners to be announced! We are busy in the library getting ready with decorations and with lots of students colouring Australian animals to enhance the 'Dreaming with Eyes Open' theme.
The 'Come as your Favourite Book Character Parade' days are:
Primary - Wednesday, 24 August.
Infants - Thursday, 25 August.
It is important your child knows what character they are and from what book.
It is always such an exciting day!!!
