Frizzled like a Fritter

Roald Dahl Day is celebrated each year in the Library.  On the author’s birthday, the Library commemorates his literary achievements and the magic he brought and continues to bring to children everywhere.  Roald Dahl is responsible for bestsellers such as The BFG, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and The Twits. It was such a privilege to stage a bold return to this tradition by hosting The Witches Storytime Event and Witchy Drawing Competition in 2022.  In our Library, Roald Dahl has a dedicated shelf section to showcase his classic books. Make sure you check out the Roald Dahl shelves next time you are in the Library or try our online collection here. Our lunchtime storytime event on Tuesday, 13th September was a success.  Staff dressed up as the witches. To everyone’s amusement, Mrs Papazoglou read the chapter Frizzled like a Fritter from The Witches and rolled her ‘r’s dramatically, inspiring everyone to draw their best witch for the competition.

The Witchy Winners were:

1. Abstract witches drawing - Hasnain

2. Scariest witches drawing - Ahmad

3. Manga/Anime witches drawing - Patricia

4. Funniest witches drawing - Vashini

5. Nicest witches drawing - Sumaidha

6. Most evil witches drawing - Mabdi, Saad, Amarid

Best Runners Up Witchy Winners were drawn by: Summer, Gracie, Ahmad, Mahdea, Adem and Shiny.

Congratulations to all participants for making our event joyful but also for helping us create a beautiful display in the Library.

Callistemon House Reading Champions

The Reading Trophy is always awarded to the House that has the most students who have completed the Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge (VPRC).  To complete the VPRC Challenge students need to read 15 books from the start of the year to the beginning of September and register the titles on the VPRC website.

It was clear from the start, Callistemon House would be hard to beat in 2022.  In the end, the sheer number of readers from Callistemon House secured bragging rights for their House to be named the House of Reading Champions.  Besnik, Senior Teen Library Advisor was on hand to award the Reading Trophy to House Leaders.  Congratulations to Callistemon House and to participants from all Houses.  Certificates for students who have completed the VPRC Challenge will be arriving soon.

Although the VPRC Challenge has finished for 2022, the Library encourages you to continue to read for enjoyment.  Adopting a regular lifelong reading habit is the key to success at school and beyond.
