New Arrivals Program
NAP Excursion to Dandenong Library & SMRC!
On the 23rd of June, all the students of the Dandenong High School New Arrivals Program went to the Dandenong library, where we saw different books and read different stories together. Also, we did a great activity called a “book genre search” that helped us to learn about different types of books and their locations in the library. My friends and I got a lot of new information from the library, which is full of resources that students and their families can access easily for free.
After the library, we went to SMRC, Southern Migrant and Refugee Centre. At the SMRC, we did an activity called “Tokhm-e Jangi”, that is a Dari word for egg fight. Teachers divided us into 8 teams and in each team, students knocked their decorated boiled eggs to see which egg could crack the other one. Obaid, Mina, Gulalia and BeBe Sediqa won the game because their eggs remained intact. We were so surprised and pleased when Mr Jesse, one of the SMRC’s staff spoke in Farsi. I think he is very clever.
In conclusion, the day was full of joy and learning and we all took good memories home to tell our excited parents.

Cell Model Recount Writing
I did a 3D cell model. I got an idea from a book. Then I started with cardboard. First, I painted the cardboard. It wouldn’t be straight. Then, I thought to make it with waste thermocol. Then I asked my dad to get a box of thermocol from his factory. Afterwards, I started buying some equipment I needed for the 3D cell model. I used cotton, watercolour, painting brush, small stand, toothpicks, glue, clay and coloured cotton balls to make the cell model. Next, I started my cell model. I cut thermocol into a box shape and I glued everything on the thermocol. I used the cardboard to label the parts of the cell and finally, after two days, I finished my 3D cell model.
