School Culture and Character Development

Dear Parents,
As your child navigates their way through their senior school years, it is important to keep lines of communication open between you and your child. This is a time where your child will be exposed to new experiences, ideas, and relationships, and as parents, it is important to be there to guide them through this journey.
According to a study conducted by the Australian Institute of Family Studies, open communication between parents and their teenagers is associated with a range of positive outcomes, including better mental health and wellbeing, fewer behavioral problems, and higher academic achievement. The study found that adolescents who reported high levels of communication with their parents were less likely to experience mental health problems such as anxiety and depression.
As part of our commitment to supporting our students and their families, we recently held a successful Year 7 webinar run by YourChoicez. The webinar covered the use of social media and how to do so in a healthy way. We encourage all parents to pave a way forward for open discussions around social media use with their teenagers.
YourChoicez is an organization that provides resources and support to young people as they navigate the complexities of adolescence. Their Instagram page is a great resource for parents looking for tips and advice on how to have open and honest communication with their children.
We believe that by working together, we can create a supportive environment where our students can thrive. We encourage you to take advantage of the resources available to you and continue to have open and honest conversations with your child.
Thank you for your ongoing support.
