From the Head of Sport
Last weekend was a great weekend for sport and there were plenty of exciting games. This weekend we have everyone at home except Boys' Football. This includes our first Rugby games in a few years so it would be great to have plenty of spectators at home.
We are also holding a Netball fundraiser for Breast Cancer Foundation, which is being run by the First VII, who are playing an Alumni team as part of the day.
Congratulations - Hockey
James Reynolds (Year 10) trialled last week for the ISA Open Boys' Hockey team and was successful in making this team. We wish him all the best in the NSWCIS competition that will be held later in the term.
Congratulations - Rugby
Congratulations to the First XV and 14s Rugby teams who celebrated their first win last weekend against Chevalier College. Mr Grace was over the moon with the results, as well as with the performance and attitude of all the BMGS boys. Well done!

Match Results - Saturday, 6th May - Boys' Football
BMGS U13 BMGS defeated Chevalier College 5-2
On a lovely and warm afternoon the boys started really strongly, dominating the first half quite decisively, with Ben in goals not seeing the ball at all. A few shots at goals narrowly missed, but eventually, the persistence of the attacking trio of Thomas, Eligh S and Oliver found the net again and again, setting the score at 4-0 at half time. The mids and the backs kept the attack competently fed with balls, and were able to wreak havoc on Chevalier.
The second half saw different teams enter the field. Chevalier turned the tables and attacked repeatedly and with determination. The Grammar boys were a pale shadow of their first half selves, with a porous mid and back line that was repeatedly penetrated by some incredible dribbling that left them flat footed and rather dazed. Chevalier scored two goals and really pressed the attack. Only the indefatigable solid defending by Angus, once again, rescued us from what might have been a dramatic defeat. Silas showed lots of courage, shutting down lots of runs. Thomas and Captain Courageous, Oliver, kept up their scoring streak, Thomas notching up a hat trick, and Oliver scoring two, to seal the match at BMGS 5, Chevalier 2. Angus won a well-deserved Man of The Match, to cap another afternoon of great soccer by the U13s that left parents and Chevalier impressed.

BMGS U14s were defeated by Chevalier College, 1-0
Our first home game was against a tough opponent in a much improved Chevalier team compared to last year. The boys were all up for the challenge in front of their home crowd and everyone gave 110%. Solid defending, with a special shout out to the middle two in Tom and Xavier J, who repelled every wave of attack that was only able to be unlocked by a deflected shot going in the top corner of our goal. The boys pressed for an equaliser with Luke and Sam working amazingly to open up space down the left wing. A great piece of teamwork in the middle of the park by Xavier S, James and Orlando created our best opportunity of the day with Josh thundering his shot against the crossbar. Congratulations boys on a great game and for your never give up attitude and great team work.

BMGS U15s were defeated by Chevalier College, 2-1
For our first home game of the season we were graced by good weather and had a strong turnout of supporters. In the 14th minute, Jed scored an excellent goal. Unfortunately, the opposition returned the favour, with a beautiful goal scored by a header from a textbook corner kick. BMGS were unable to gain the upper hand. Despite running hard and communicating better than ever, our boys flagged towards the end of the game. Although we had eyes for the goal, our players struggled to piece together play at the top of the field, making it difficult to create chances on goal this week. Chevalier were eventually able to score a second goal, ultimately leading to a score of 2-1. It was a tremendous effort from our players this week, and a huge thank you is extended to Mitch, Kit and Luke who played up from 14s to fortify our ranks. It's time to head back to training and continue working on our fitness and teamwork.

BMGS Second XI were defeated by Chevalier College, 4-0
Our Second XI approached the field with good preparation and training. Unfortunately, the Chevalier Second XI proved incredibly handy. BMGS had a fighting chance, with a strong idea of their formation and good communication, especially from Callum in goals. After the first goal was scored by Chevalier, we struggled to close ranks in defence and could not shut down the opposition’s lead striker. Chevalier took advantage of this and sent numerous through balls to this player, ultimately leading to three more successful shots on goal. This was a hard game for the BMGS boys, who kept their heads up and worked until the end to solve problems and connect passages of play, especially Jules and Charlie.

BMGS First XI defeated Chevalier College, 2-1
The Boys' First XI took on Chevalier at home for the second round of the season. From the
kick off, both teams set the intensity high, but BMGS held out and dominated the field Skipper, Jett, narrowly missed a chance coming from some excellent team play between himself, Isaac, Max and Jaiden that cut open the Chevalier defence. Richard and Xavier held strong at the back, shutting down any attempt on goal, with Trin and Will Z supporting and brilliantly playing the ball out from the back, feeding Will G and Jaxon on the wings and creating some great chances on goal. Jaiden displayed some excellent skill alongside the speed of Oliver, who was constantly putting pressure in Chevalier's half of the pitch, but a goal was still yet to come with the scores still locked at 0-0.
With the first half ending, both Jaiden and Xavier unfortunately were out of the game injured and the odds were stacking up against BMGS, now having 2 players out. The team didn't let it phase them and, after a quick little change in formation to cater for the injuries, they adapted and kept on pushing to get the job done. As per usual, Jack was pulling off some great saves, but his distribution was supreme, allowing us to keep the ball rolling in our possession. Flynn Nicholls was playing out of his skin and made instant impact since coming on, displaying his confidence and skill, and ultimately having all his hard work paying off by scoring a brace with two great goals. The match ended at 2-1 to BMGS, a very tough match, but a match that also showed the incredible resilience and fight in our boys as they got a much-deserved win. This was our second win for the season so well done, lads; you earned this one 100%! Goal Scorer and Man of the Match - Flynn Nicholls (2)
