Principal's Report

Cross Country

Congratulations to the members of the Cross-Country Team who competed last Wednesday in the Divisional Cross County all achieving their personal best. Sheer fitness and resilience have seen Braedyn, Imogen and Lucas move through to the Eastern Metropolitan Regional Cross Country at the Yarra Valley Racecourse next Tuesday. Congratulations and all the best to these super stars!

Aerobics

Congratulations to our Aerobics Teams who performed last week for their parents in the Hall, it was a great opportunity for the teams to perform live to an audience and they all did an amazing job especially the students who are new to aerobics this year. They are all practicing hard for the upcoming Pacific Open Aerobics Competition next Saturday the 17th of June at Rowville. Go Syndal!!

I would like to make special mention of Serena in Year 5 who performed her singles performance as part of the presentation last Wednesday. Serena is a valuable member of our school team but also performs as a member of the Action Sports Aerobics team. Last Saturday Serena competed in the School Aerobics Victorian Championships, winning her section, this means Serena is off to Queensland later in the year to compete in the School Aerobics National Championships. Congratulations, Serena!

Parent/Teacher Interviews

Parent-teacher interviews will be held on Wednesday 21st June. The interview will once again be booked online via the Compass Parent Portal. The booking system will be open from tomorrow and will remain open until 4.00pm on Tuesday 20th June.

A reminder that interviews are scheduled for 10 minutes duration only. Please help to support our families by ensuring you are on time for interviews and finishing within the allocated 10 minutes. If you need more time to discuss any particular issue with your child’s teacher, please indicate this to them before the interview finishes, so that you can both arrange a suitable time for a follow-up conversation.

The purpose of the meeting/interview is:

  • To allow parents to discuss their child’s progress so far this year.
  • To exchange any relevant information that parents/teachers feel is pertinent to their child’s future learning goals.
  • For teachers to discuss any general issues that have arisen since the start of the year.

It is important that before the interview parents have read their child’s midyear report.

Reports

Teachers are just adding the final comments to the student reports. From approximately 4.00 pm on Friday 16th June, you will be able to access your child’s Semester 1 reports from our Compass Portal. Once logged in, you will be able to download a pdf copy of the report and save it or print it for your records. If you misplace your report in the future, you can simply log in to the Compass Portal and download it again, whilst your child is enrolled at SSPS.

Compass is a web-based system that is accessible on any modern web browser or by using the ‘Compass School Manager’ app available for iOS or Android. If you have a smartphone, we encourage you to download the app, as this will allow both parents/carers to receive ‘push’ notifications on your device. Please note that some features of the portal are only available by logging in via the website. If you are experiencing problems accessing your child’s report via the app, then please try to access it on a desktop or laptop computer instead, as sometimes the app doesn’t work.

To access our Parent Portal, go to https://syndalsp-viccompass.education.

To log in to the site, you will need your family’s username and password. If you have misplaced these details, please contact the office, which can reissue you with a new password.

Once you have logged in navigate to the reports section of your child’s student profile page (see instructions below).

2022 Annual Report to the School Community

Our annual report has been approved by School Council and the Department of Education. It is available for families to view on the school website: https://www.syndalsp.vic.edu.au/page/169/School-Policies-&-Accountabilities. The annual report informs the school community of what has been achieved and how the school is performing. This is a great opportunity for us to reflect as a school and ensure we are planning accordingly for the future.

We will be holding our Annual Reporting Community meeting to discuss the report on Tuesday 20th June at 7.30 pm.

Shrine of Remembrance Visit

Last Friday, all our Year 4 students reaped the educational benefits of visiting the Shrine of Remembrance which was fully subsidised by the Monash Rotary Club. The feedback from the students and the teachers was overwhelmingly, positive. Mrs Stonehouse-Melke and Miss Petrucci were excited to report  the feedback they received from the tour guides regarding the quality of questions asked by our students and the commendable behaviour exhibited by our students.

School Crossing

Finally, I would like to remind our families of the importance of using the school crossing when walking to and from school. The roundabouts are not the safest option. Unfortunately, Montgomery Avenue is an increasingly busy thorough fare for vehicles travelling between Blackburn and Stephenson’s Roads. Please use the school crossing whenever possible.

Have a great fortnight!
