Principal's Report

This Saturday we celebrate the completion of Secondary schooling with our 2016 Year 12 students and families. This event is a significant milestone for all students. It represents the completion of 13 years of school life where the students are able to grow and develop in a safe, caring and rather sheltered environment and the commencement of a stage in life when the decisions really become the students. Whether starting a new career, university, TAFE or just spending time deciding where the next step is, it will be exciting and I wish Year 12 all the best for their future. I’m confident we will continue to hear great things from these fine young adults.

Speaking of fine young adults, next Tuesday we will officially induct our 2017 school captains. Although only in the role now for 4 weeks, Lucy Wilson, Tahlia Veney, Jackson Oliver & Kurt Johnstone are already showing the high calibre of their leadership. I’m looking forward to working with these school leaders over the next 12 months. I’m sure they will leave their mark on the role and make Cowra High proud.

This week I had the great pleasure of attending the first meeting of the Cowra High Junior AECG (Aboriginal Educational Consultative Group). The Cowra area has a traditionally strong AECG network which acts as a significant point of contact between the Cowra Aboriginal community and Cowra schools. We are optimistic that our Junior AECG will play a similar role within Cowra High, providing a student’s voice to educational decisions within the school. I envisage our Junior AECG working in unison with our SRC and Senior Leadership Group for the betterment of all students. My hope is that we will quickly see crossover of ideas and membership in all the student leadership groups. Certainly the inaugural membership of the Junior AECG bodes well for a strong and positive Group well into the future.

Have a great fortnight
