New location for the LSE Department
LSE at St Pius X College has been undergoing change during 2016. Not only did the department increase its staff to form a larger team, to broaden its scope to support students and work with teachers across Year 5 to Year 12, it has been given a new collaborative office space to work in. Thanks to Mr Couani’s forward planning, and support of learning support initiatives at the school, LSE now has a spacious office on the second floor of the Admin Block, alongside Mr Rick Russo’s Counselling Team. We also have a new shared meeting room across the hall, so we look forward to holding our CPMs (collaborative planning meetings) with students, parents and staff there in the coming year. All are welcome at any time.
Dear Parents and Carers,
Do you have some free time and an interest in assisting students with their homework, reading or research work in the After-school Study Program in 2017? If so, this is an invitation to you to assist LSE staff on one or more afternoons (Tues, Wed, Thurs) from 3.15 to 4.30pm, from the start of 2017. You may be able to assist over one term or more than one term. The program begins from Week 2 of each term, and runs throughout the school year, so flexibility and change of your own schedule can certainly be accommodated.
Students from all years and with all levels of ability attend at the after-school program, which allows for both independent work in the Senior Library, and encourages students to seek assistance from teachers or parent-volunteers present. Students may need general assistance for maths or English/ Literacy homework tasks or help to research a topic on internet for History, Geography, Commerce, Religion or Science, and you would be welcome to assist only if and where you feel comfortable. LSE staff are on hand and present at all times, and can direct your assistance to where it may be needed.
If you are interested in this opportunity for volunteering some of your time and informal tutoring assistance for the benefit of students in 2017, please read and complete the two attached notices, and then:
For queries, please do email me at any time at JRaheb-Mol@stpiusx.nsw.edu.au over the holidays and/or throughout 2017 to indicate your interest and availability.
Ms J Raheb-Mol - LSE Coordinator
