Year 6 End of Year Celebration
Congratulations to the band of class parents who organised an amazing end of year celebration last Sunday for Year 6. I know that it was a big event to organise and that can be stressful. Rest assured you did a wonderful job. Over 400 people attended and a great time was had by all. The balloons, photos and presents were fantastic and the food plentiful. There was also a photo booth with a dress up box where many interesting photos were taken. Thankyou to Mrs Iwatani, Mrs Spanyik and Mrs Martin for attending. Mrs Martin had her parent and teacher cap on at the party. I trust it was appreciated by the boys.
Junior School Award Ceremony
Our Junior School Prizegiving Day will occur at Oxford Falls on Thursday 8th December at 12 noon. We will be acknowledging the award winners for academia, chess, debating and sports that haven’t already had a presentation ceremony this year. All boys extra curricular efforts will be acknowledged as will the fact that for the Year 6 boys this is the last year of their primary schooling. As this is a large award ceremony we will have the sports awards first, a short interval in the middle and we envision it will be completed shortly after 2 pm.
Boys are to wear their normal school uniform (shirt and tie). They will be at Oxford Falls so they need to bring morning tea, lunch and please make sure they have a water bottle for the ceremony. We have emailed a parent/guardian of a boy receiving an academic or sporting award. It would be wonderful if you can attend.
Reports
Reports will be mailed this week and loaded onto the portal on Thursday. If there are any queries, the staff will be at school on Monday and Tuesday but they have meetings. Please send an email or phone and they will be able to answer any queries.
End of Year Mass
The boys will be going to mass this Friday at 10 am. Parents are most welcome to attend. It is a mass of thanks and as we are in Advent , it is a mass of preparation for the coming of the Christ child. Please remember to keep Christ in Christmas.
Next Year
School starts on Monday 30th January with the boys coming in their summer school uniform. It will be a normal, get organised day and we will have a welcome cup of tea for the parents. If any ‘recycled’ parents can assist on that morning that would be great. Please note the invitation below for coffee at a local coffee shop. We will have a full sports trial day on Thursday 2nd February and 9th February. The boys attend in sports uniform and bring their morning tea and lunch as there are no tuckshop facilities at Oxford Falls.
Monday 6th February: Information Evening for Years 5, 6 and 7. Year 5 and 6 will commence at 6.30 pm.
Wednesday 8th February: Junior School swimming carnival. Parents are most welcome to attend.
Advent: “The Reason for the Season”
Advent comes from the Latin word meaning "coming." Jesus is coming, and Advent is intended to be a season of preparation for His arrival. The themes for the four weeks of Advent are Hope, Peace, Joy and Love. Last Sunday we had Peace and next Sunday will be Joy.
Since this is the final Woodchatta for the season, I would like to wish all of you a hopeful, peaceful, joyous Christmas full of love. Please be safe on the roads over the Christmas season , remember you have precious cargo - your family and yourself.
Thanking you for your support.
Mr T Long - Head of Junior School
Thursday Sport: The Extra-Curricular and Academic Awards Ceremony takes place in lieu of regular sport. Boys will depart Chatswood at 9am and return for normal dismissal. Pick-up at Oxford Falls is normal time should you not be attending the Ceremony.
Basketball: Can all players who have not yet done so, please return their basketball singlet to myself ASAP as the season is now completed. Those playing in 2017 will be re-issued a singlet upon returning in Term 1.
Junior School End of Year Awards: The End of Year Academic/Sports Award Ceremony takes place at Oxford Falls on Thursday 8th December from midday until 2pm. Extra-curricular Certificates will be awarded to all students and sports awards, including the summer season trophies and major awards will be presented.
I will be away with the Year 11 Snowy Hike but I’d like to pass on my congratulations to all awardees. Thanks once again to all for another huge year of Junior School Sport. The involvement and sportsmanship displayed by all students was superb and I acknowledge our cohort for this. I especially thank the House Captains for their energy and leadership over the year, especially at the major carnivals. We once again had much success but more importantly we developed our boys holistically and gave them an opportunity to form closer ownership of the College culture. I must sincerely thank parents for their support over the year.
Have a happy and safe Christmas period and I look forward to doing it all again in 2017!
Mr G Virgona - Junior School Sportsmaster
