We have staff on Yard Duty from 8:45 am until 3:30 pm and due to other responsibilities are unable to to provide supervision outside these times.
Please also be aware the Early Years office will close at 4:00 pm each day.
Students waiting for collection at the end of the day will be directed to the concrete leaves at the front of the school and early arrival will need to find an undercover spot to play.

The Lakes Street Library
Click here to see our new street library.
Community members are encouraged to deposit and withdraw their pre-loved book in our free street library. All books will be given the opportunity to open the mind of the next reader to use their imagination, be curious and creative.
Our library is about our commitment to literacy and reading for knowledge and enjoyment. Recycle you books and build the momentum. Literacy and sharing a tale or two models and stamps a seal of approval on books are fun.
Academies at The Lakes 2018

If you have not paid you have until the start of week 3 to contact the school and pay or make arrangements to pay. The school is happy to discuss payment plans, however, these will need to be agreed upon and be followed. Any student who has not either paid or made an arrangement by this time will be removed from the Academy program.
NO STUDENT WHO HAS BEEN AT THE LAKES IN 2017 IS ALLOWED TO APPLY FOR ACADEMIES. THIS HAS NOW CLOSED FOR ALL CURRENT STUDENTS.
New Students to The Lakes
Any students who are new to The Lakes this year are welcome to undertake a try-out for any of the academies we offer before the start of week 3. Students are required to put their names down at the office and the teacher in charge of the academy will organise a try out. We offer a Science (SANE), Sport (Fast Track), and Performing Arts and Dance (MAD).
We welcome any new students to try out for these academies. Please note there is an additional cost, all of this information can be found in school payment documentation.

'Back to The Lakes' BBQ - Year 9 2017 Students
It is with great pleasure that we welcome last year’s Year 9 students back to The Lakes for a BBQ. With the school year now underway, we look forward to the opportunity to catch up with last year’s Year 9 students.
It would be greatly appreciated if the parent survey and student survey posted out to last year’s Year 9 students and parents be returned to us at the BBQ. In ensuring each child encounters the best possible transition into their senior secondary school years, we feel it is vital to collect feedback in order to refine this process continually as a school and provide our students with the best possible opportunities.
The BBQ will be as follows:
Date: Tuesday, February 20, 2018
Venue: The Lakes MYC Gym
Cost: Nil
Time: 4:30 – 5:30pm
We look forward to having your student back at The Lakes for this event. For catering purposes please return the slip posted out by Tuesday, February 13, 2018. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you require any information regarding any Year 9 Transition.

Can You Help?
We have a Year 2 girl who lives in Gordons Road who would love a buddy to walk home with after school. She is returning to our Lakes Community and is looking to make some connections with people in her neighbourhood.
If you walk home and are interested in being a buddy or friend can you contact the Early Years Office and leave your details. Any help would be sincerely appreciated.

Garden News
Welcome back happy gardeners!!
At the end of last year we got some exciting news for our school garden – the school received a Community Grant from the City of Whittlesea to extend the garden, and do a range of community arts projects based around the garden.
The garden project will involve all members of the school community and will also include members of the South Morang Scouts, South Morang Kinder and Merriang SDS – so we will be establishing a truly inclusive community garden!
Over the next few weeks l will be working with students to start extending the garden and begin our first arts project; a mosaic mural on our two existing permanent garden beds. Watch this space and keep an eye on our school facebook page for regular garden updates.

SoMe Program - MY
In Term 1 of this year, our Year 7 and Year 8 students will be participating in a research project conducted by La Trobe University in the important area of social media literacy. Our Year 8 students will participate in the four-lesson SoMe: Social Me program, which teaches students to critically evaluate social media advertising and promote positive social media use.
Both Year 7 and Year 8 students will be invited to participate in a survey to evaluate the impact of the program. Parents, please be sure to look out for the consent form that has been sent home with your child and return ASAP. Please call The Lakes Middle Years if you have any questions about this program.
