The long earth is truly a masterpiece in science fiction. I'd say it is the greatest ever made.
Published on the 19 of June 2012, the book is philosophical, interesting, and filled with incredible worlds. The book is written by British sci fi writers Terry Pratchett and Stephen Baxter.
The book talks about Joshua Valiente and an AI named Lobsang as they travel throughout the Long Earth, a row of parallel earths in different universes. Throughout their journey, they encounter many different oddities in the natural world. They discover countless new species, some of which we know in the fossil record. Also they encounter hominids which are capable of ‘stepping’ (the ability to travel freely through the long earth) as some humans are such as Joshua.
The book also discusses how the discovery of the Long Earth affects the human race, as they begin colonisation of these nearby earths. Also the human race is being divided, as there are those who can't ‘step’. Seeing them as a threat, non-steppers rebel against them, as they believe the Long Earth is unnatural (which, in my personal opinion, is absolute nonsense, for I believe this is an amazing discovery).
This book truly is a masterpiece. I truly hope that this, and the rest of the series is made into a movie, as JK's Harry Potter books did all those years ago.
Geek Girl Sunny Side up by Holly Smale is a side story to all of the other Geek Girl books. It involves a story of how Nick first met Harriet and Harriet going to Paris fashion week.
It's a really good read if you want something simple but enjoyable. If you have read the Geek Girl Series then you will definitely like this side story ‘Sunny Side Up. However, if you haven't read the books before, borrow the first Geek Girl book from the library which is just called Geek Girl.
I score this book 4 ½ stars out of five.
