Student Leadership Group

In the first week of Term 3, our students who were selected to complete the Art Project on the Stations of the Cross for the Catholic Education Office delightfully presented their pieces to those attending the CEO Conference. Well done to all students involved in the Art Project, as thinkers, artists and presenters.

Year 12 Truganini Cluster Leader, Mikaela Borg, discusses her experience:

On Thursday the 14th of July, I had the privilege to present my modernized Station of the Cross at the Catholic Education Conference. As part of the Student Leadership Group this year, we were required to create a modern interpretation of a Station of the Cross. I received the second station “Jesus carries his cross” and had a vision that Jesus carried the weight of the world on his shoulders. With this in mind, myself and my team members came to the decision to omit Jesus’ traditional clothing and replace this with casual clothing with a graffiti background. My station also includes people in the background whose faces are blurred emphasizing that Jesus was on his own throughout the first stages of his journey. The centrepiece of my artwork includes a graffiti painted heart with a mixture of pink and blue veins, representing human life and tree branches representing nature, illustrating Jesus’ road which gave us life.

I was extremely excited to present my art work at the conference as all the effort students had put in was finally able to be displayed to the public. It was so amazing to have people appreciate the art pieces and made all those involved feel so happy to be apart of the experience.
