CHANG Cluster News

As Term 3 begins, and the end of the year draws closer and closer, it’s important for our students to start the term off on a positive note. Hopefully all students have returned reinvigorated and refreshed, ready for a big semester.
During the holidays, three Chang students were among a group of students who travelled to Timor Leste to work on our service project. These students were Marielle Lopez, Daniella Lo Giudice and Mary Ngoma. We cannot speak highly enough about these wonderful, mature young women. This term Chang’s social justice focus is to fundraise for Timor Leste. We will begin this by preparing and selling some traditional Timorese food to students in the coming weeks.
The Term 2 Cluster Sport was Soccer. Combining excellent teamwork and skill Chang came out as victors. We hope to continue this enthusiasm and participation in this term’s sport – Olympics. The Olympics Cluster Sports will combine a number of activities which will cater for many students, allowing everyone to participate and contribute to another winning term for Chang.
This week Year 12 students had a VTAC assembly on Wednesday 20th July, providing students with essential VTAC (Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre) instructions and other important information (including SEAS applications) to assist them in applying for courses for next year. Tutors will continue to work with students in the Pastoral Care program to assist them with any difficulties they may encounter.
Year 11 students had Subject Selection information sessions to assist them with the process of Subject Selection for Year 12. Students will continue to work with their Tutors to complete these forms and take part in the Careers Expo next week.
Stress and Studying
By the end of Term 3, Year 12 students will have finished all of their coursework and SACs and will be preparing for exams. This means that Term 3 is a very busy term and can cause lots of stress.
Remember the most important study tool for students is to get plenty of sleep, it consolidates what has been learnt and prepares the brain for new learning to take place. It is also very important for students to get into a rhythm to study, study for no more than 50 minutes without a short break. Make sure you are studying in a well-lit, comfortable area away from distractions.
REMEMBER – Look after yourself!
STAY ACTIVE
Too often, exercise takes a back seat when we’ve got something important going on in our lives. But even just a short twenty-minute walk can help stimulate your blood flow and clear your mind. These are great healthy habits to get into, and you will find you have a lot more energy during the day. Regular exercise also improves your skin, and the health of your body in general, a massive confidence booster.
EAT WELL
Although it is easy to live on chocolate or hot chips when SACs are piling on top of us, it won’t benefit you at all. Ensure you eat a balanced diet including sources of iron such as red meat or spinach to maintain high levels of energy. Remember to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day. You cannot study if you are dehydrated.
SLEEP WELL
Get 8-10 hours of sleep each night to ensure you give your body time to relax and recharge. Going to bed and getting up at the same time each day on a regular basis makes sleeping a natural pattern and will ensure you are not spending hours every night failing to get to sleep. Give yourself time to relax and wind down before bed so you are ready for some shut-eye.
