Year 7 Dockland's Excursion

This term all Year 7 Humanities classes visited the Docklands to research the liveability of the area.  All students are to be congratulated for their behaviour and enthusiasm in collecting the data. Chloe Rees 7B has provided a recount of the excursion.

----------------

In Docklands we went around the area to compare the liveability of the Dockland and Melton precinct. We looked at the infrastructure and found that Docklands had better transport as there was tram and train access. We also noticed that Docklands was able to accommodate for more residents as there was high density areas like apartments and office buildings. We also found that the medical access was greater as there were private and public hospitals and medical centres. I believe that Docklands is a lot more liveable because of its infrastructure.

What went in Docklands was that we all stayed together and worked as a team to get around. If anyone felt hot or needed to stop or help with the activities we all put in effort to support one another.

It would have been even better if we took a tram back to the Southern Cross Station because it was really hot. But we stood strong and walked together as a team to get back to school safely.

Earth Ed Excursion

We were fortunate enough to take 8A to Earth Ed in Ballarat for the ‘Rocks, Minerals and Exploration’ program.

The weather Gods were kind and our students were able to complete all of the following activities: Mineral Identification, Core Sampling and Metal detecting*.

Our students were engaged, polite and co-operative.

Ps Two of our girls spotted a tiny frog that had wandered into one of the rooms…we alerted Peter (one of the educators) who promptly put it outside…He said they had not seen too many frogs in recent times so it was great to see this fellow.

*Whilst no gold nuggets were found, a couple of pennies from early last century were detected much to the delight of our budding geologists.

Standing Together against Bullying at Melton SC

On Thursday 14th of December Melton held a presentation to all Year 7 that inspired us to stand up against bullying in our school. Bully Zero Australia came out and presented on the types of bullying, how to seek help and teach students to become empathetic towards each other in school and their community. The presentation empowered students to be Up-Standing bystanders and taking positive action when they witness bullying instead of becoming bystanders. Beau Arnautovic in Year 7 stated that the presentation taught us to stand up to bullying whenever we can and if we see bullying happen have your say and stop it or quickly get help”.

Beau shared that “It is good to see people who are tagging along to raise awareness and stop bullying once and for all. Cale Hooker the professional AFL player is a part of the bully zero campaign and inspires students to prevent bullying. It is important to speak about bullying in school so we don’t have kids lives ruined by a bully who has nothing better to do”.

Cale Hooker, the Essendon Footballer shared his challenges and stereotypes that he needed to push through to become the best AFL player he could be. Cale shared the importance of teamwork and sticking together to help fight bullying. “At Essendon we lift each other up through the tough times, encourage each other…”

Fourteen selected students who have shown our STARR values this year participated in a fun session with Cale enjoying kick to kick and photo opportunities.

Beau Arnautovic shares that he enjoyed the program because “it helps our school community understand what’s happening with bullying in the world and how we can stop it”. “It make us feel empathy for kids who cry themselves to sleep every night and go through the pain all over again”

Melton SC will continue the discussion and actions in stopping bullying as we would like to see everyone feeling safe and enjoying their Melton SC life.
