Adamriginal Guest aboriginal Performer

On Wednesday 9th of August, Year 7 were treated to a performance by Adam Hill who is a multi-talented Dhungatti (Kempsey area of N.S.W.) Aboriginal artist and musician who works as a professional exhibiting

painter, graphic artist, cartoonist and illustrator. He is also a respected Yidaki (Digeridoo) player, having studied formally with traditional Yolngu teachers from North East Arnhem land.

Adam’s performance is part of the Year 7 World Music program, providing the students with an appreciation of the central place of music in Australian Indigenous culture. He presented a programme of song, puppetry, language, personal stories and Yidaki (didgeridoo). Using a map of Indigenous Australia, Adam introduced our students to the various Indigenous regions, their Instruments and their songs. He also demonstrated the complex ‘Tongue Talk’ techniques and various playing styles of the Yidaki, as well as a history of its origins.
