NSTA Tennis Finals and Play-Offs Saturday 19th November
This Saturday is the last round for this year. It is also a very big day at Oxford Falls with 22 games at home. The Basketball Club will also be running a BBQ for us throughout the day (see the flyer below for details).
Thank you to all those people who have helped score this term; your time and effort is greatly appreciated. Next year all teams will be playing their Round 7 matches on Saturday 4th February. This is the first Saturday back next year. The training schedule for all teams will remain the same as this year.
It was a tough round for our teams last Saturday with a large number of losses; however, we had some great victories including the 13As and 17As who won their games against St Augustine’s teams at their home courts. Our 4ths won their game against an undefeated Oakhill Navy team, along with our 5ths and 6ths who won their games. Our 17Bs, 17Ds, 15Ds and 14F teams are all undefeated after five rounds and at the other end we still have a couple of teams chasing their first victory.
E Teams: Please note all players will need to organise their own transport to Moss Vale this Saturday. All games are at Moss Vale Basketball Stadium - Parkes Road Moss Vale. Do not go to the school.
Game of the day:
The 17As win by one point in overtime against a confident St Augustine’s Team. The game lead switched with every basket scored and fortunately we were up when the buzzer sounded.
Plays of the Day:
Jono Moait (17As) drops a clutch 3 pointer from the corner to send it into overtime. Jono also put in the winning basket. A reverse layup with only seconds to spare.
Deserves a Mention:
Matt Kachel and William Wylie (13D); Alex Hassan and Luke Petitto (13F);
Matt Hogan (14D); Taj Varlow and Christian Santelli (14F);
Max Fazzino and Matt Davey (15D); Lachlan Green and Harrison Dicker (15F);
Amechi Okwechime (17D); Darcey Gyzen (17A); Nathaniel Panozzo (1sts);
Andrew Imseis and Julian Di Ciano (4ths); Cameron Haldane (6ths).

Congratulations to all! Last Saturday was a great day for tennis - finally - and our players ended the Term 4 Competition with focus and energy. All of our 26 teams across Years 5-11 were either in the Finals or Play-Offs which shows the strength of St Pius X in this local competition. Thanks to our parents for your ongoing support and interest.
The Finals results list is yet to be published by NSTA this week but we know that we can congratulate these SPX Teams who won their Finals on the day:
SPX Teams 6, 17, 18, 20, 21, 23, and 24 also won in the Play-Offs. Well done.
Thank you to Thomas Wong and Ky Simpson who came along to umpire the earlier sessions for our Teams. Our congratulations and best wishes to Thomas Wong and Angus Vardy as they work at the Apia International as ‘Ball Kids’ this January, also having been selected to work at the Canberra International Tournament too this Term.
We will now have a break from tennis and regather as Teams in early Term 1. As Term 1 presents a new comp, with new NSTA grading, our Teams will be adjusted as necessary based on results from this term and competition requirements across the competing schools. Thanks to our Summer Tennis Staff Coaches - Ms Schuster, Mr Webster, Ms Keighery and Ms Iwatani and Senior School and Junior School Sports Masters – Mr Stearn and Mr Virgona for their contributions to Term 4 tennis at the College.
Have a great school holiday and enjoy your Summer of Tennis.
