Chicago Musical

Hey SCHS community!

The students in the Musical cast, band, stage crew and costuming co-curricular have been working hard to put together an amazing show: Chicago!

Unfortunately, as a result of COVID-19, last year's show was cancelled, but most of the cast from 2020 stayed on and we also have some new and exciting additions for this year :)

It's such an amazing experience being a part of the cast, I've had so much fun learning the choreography and songs. I love seeing the process of putting together something awesome with so many people :)

We recently tried on a few dresses for costuming and it was great, it feels like all the different little bits and pieces are finally coming together.

Performances will be 5th - 7th August in the SCHS auditorium, there will be more information released this term.

Make sure to keep an eye on the school's Facebook/Instagram page for updates and also some awesome behind-the-scenes rehearsal pictures!

MUSICAL IS BACK, AND IS (HOPEFULLY) HERE TO STAY

If you’re someone who stays back after school, you may have heard a vague stomping of feet and music playing from the T- Wing on Wednesdays. People making jokes that would make your dad cringe, and occasionally, very bad mic feedback. Fear not, there is no ghost with a bad sense of humour that lurks the grounds of Suzanne Cory after hours (except for some teachers) - it’s just us, the cast and orchestra (not to forget the various behind-the-scenes legends in the crew and costume groups) of Suzanne Cory’s musical production for this year, Chicago!

We were actually going to perform Chicago last year, but COVID swooped in like an unhygienic Batman and stole our spotlight. Fortunately, we’re back in business, with most of last year’s cast intact, but also with some new additions - including yours truly. ;)

Performances are going to be from the 5th to the 7th of August, right here in Suzanne Cory’s auditorium. More information will be released later this term so don’t forget to tell all your friends to come see us, and to tell all your fossils to check out the SCHS Facebook page for more updates!

Great Victorian Bike Ride

Great Victorian Bike Ride training began in Term 2 with some fun introductory rides along the Werribee and Yarra Rivers. The students have been well-equipped and enthusiastic, and it has been particularly pleasing to see how considerate they are of other trail users. They slow down to pass walkers and runners and call out to warn others of their approach. Jash and GVBR veteran Marlowe have been setting the pace and our other experienced GVBR campaigner Will is very happy to be back on his bike and setting a great example for the younger students with his preparation and riding. Harsh, Jay, Toby, Thilan and Callum are rapidly improving their riding and Preet is looking great on his new bike. It was wonderful to have Preet’s mum join us for a segment of the Yarra River ride! Janice, Sophie, Kavin, Muhtasim and Tavish have also joined us for a ride and we hope to see them again! Thank you to the parents who have been transporting students and bikes to the trailheads on their weekend mornings.

Training rides will be recommencing in Term 3. Please note that the originally planned rides will be reshuffled due to the cancellation of two rides in Term 2. We will start with our planned 50km rides on the Federation Trail and along the Surf Coast and then complete the 70-80km rides along the Maribyrnong River-Footscray Road-Beach Road and Warburton Rail Trail routes. Hopefully the students are getting excited about the increasingly challenging routes and distances! Keep an eye on Compass for notices, an updated schedule, and for the Compass Events for each training ride.

Happy riding (and stay hydrated)!
