RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

This Friday 11th June we as a school will be celebrating The Feast of the Sacred Heart. Fr Michael will be joining us here at school and will lead us in prayer with a celebratory Mass at 10:00am.

The feast day of the Sacred Heart always falls on a Friday as it is celebrated 19 days after Pentecost Sunday. Other specific Saint feast days such as St Mary MacKillop (8th August) are celebrated annually on a fixed date. Feast days like Baptism of the Lord or Feast of Christ the King will slightly vary in their day/date (not usually month) according to the Liturgical calendar of events and in particular, Easter celebrations are always held on fixed days (Good Friday).

One of the most well-known and widely celebrated days of devotion is that of the Sacred Heart. The symbolic heart that represents Jesus’ divine love for us as individuals and for all humanity.

We know that the heart of Jesus is so full of love and that through His actions he showed us how to help those in need. We will be thinking of those who are finding life tough and hope through our donations and actions we can bring them some comfort. Each grade will have specific items to bring but you may also bring an item from another grade as well as a money donation. These are what the grades are asked to donate:

Grade Prep:  baby clothes, socks, dressing gown, pyjamas for any age male/female.

Grade One: Toiletries; hair brush, toothpaste/brush, deodorant, bandaids, tissues, can openers and also tin soup

Grade Two:Pillow cases, pillows, heat packs, tins of spaghetti or baked beans

Grade Four: Cutlery -such as spoons, plastic bowls, Breakfast cereals

Grade Five: Soft toys(if used good condition), colouring books, textas, pencil cases

If donating an item of your grade is not possible, any items/or money  from the above list would be greatly appreciated and put towards creating  “Comfort Packs” for families. The items you bring can be dropped off to the office or into your child’s classroom anytime. We will be taking the boxes to St.Vinnies in the week starting the 24th of June.

After all the donations are made the Grade 6’s will create the “Comfort Packs” using all the donations and with the money will buy more items to put into the packs.
