Boarding News

Mrs Hannah Whittemore & Mr Anthony Begg

Over the last few weeks Kinross Wolaroi representatives have attended the Regional Boarding Expos in both Dubbo and Wagga, and also the North West Equestrian Expo in Coonabarabran. What has become clear is that parents are looking for boarding school options that allow them to remain connected to their children’s educational journey. Our boarding families can frequently attend parent teacher interviews, assemblies, co-curricular and social events. It was lovely to meet up with past, current and future families at these events. Hearing positive feedback about our students and dedicated staff is always encouraging and this was a regular theme of the conversations at each event.

The boarders are all looking forward to the coming Queen’s Birthday long weekend and the opportunity to have a weekend at home before a busy end to the term when they return to school. Boarders who are travelling home privately for the long weekend will be able to depart after school, at 3.30pm on Thursday 10 June. Those boarders who will travel home on public transport will mostly depart from the School either on Thursday evening or during the morning on Friday 11 June.

Boarders will be expected to return to School on Monday 14 June.  Please be aware, if you are planning to return your child to school on Monday 14 June; because the date is a Public Holiday, the boarding houses will be closed until 3.00pm and students must be returned to their boarding house between 3.00pm – 5.00pm, so that students are settled in before dinner at 5.45pm.

Please note that boarders will need to have leave submitted via Boardingware for the long weekend.  If your child is visiting another family for the weekend you will need to include all the relevant details in your Boardingware submission.

The boarders will return to school for a busy week, including normal classes, a Careers Night for Years 10 -12, and the usual packing up process in the boarding houses.

The last day of Term 2 is Friday 18 June.  Please note that this will be a normal school day, concluding at 3.30pm.  Boarders will not be permitted to leave until after this time, and boarders will not be permitted to travel home on the Thursday evening, 17 June.  Boarders who only have the option to travel home on NSW Trainlink services or on flights that will depart on Friday may be permitted to travel on Friday 18 June if permission for academic leave has been granted.

Because the term does not conclude until 3.30pm on Friday 18 June, the School has organised a bus to run to Dubbo on the Friday afternoon dropping off students at either Wellington or Dubbo.   We have a large number of boarders who have been booked to travel on this bus and we are hoping that this initiative will prove to be a convenient option for parents.

Boarders who are travelling either on the bus or NSW Trainlink services need to be aware that that there are luggage restrictions that will be in place.  Boarders on the bus service will only be allowed to take one item of larger luggage and one item of hand luggage. items such as swags, scooters or crates and boxes cannot be carried. You may need to collect some of your child’s belongings prior to the end of term.

One boarding house on each site will remain open of Friday night to accommodate students who are unable to leave on Friday afternoon or evening.  These designated houses will close at 11.00am on Saturday 19 June.  All students must be collected by this time.  Please advise your Head of House if you will not be able to collect your child until the Saturday morning.

Students will be expected to return to School on Monday 12 July.  Boarding Houses will be open at 1.30pm to welcome students back to school for Term 3.
