Huge congratulations to all our K-6 students on a wonderful evening of music, dance and drama last Thursday evening. Despite the damp and cold conditions, the atmosphere was warm and vibrant in the DPA! It was such a delight to be able to share the students’ hard work with our parent community and see so many of our students shine in their music, dance and drama ensembles.
I would like to thank the following people:
There will be photos from the evening available soon.
Our K-6 students thoroughly enjoyed the visit from Musica Viva on May 28th. They entertained and delighted all our students with their Music in My Suitcase show sharing a host of songs from different countries around the world. This incredibly talented group also enthralled our audience by singing a song in three different languages taught to them by three of our own students, Charlotte Gurr, Leopold Wade and Benjamin Howe. The students shared the language of their own families with Mara and the rest of the school. Charlotte taught us the song in Chinese, Leopold in Italian and Benjamin in Indonesian. The band very much enjoyed their time at KWS and were particularly impressed with our ability to clap in time in 5 beats in a bar, not an easy feat!
Last Saturday morning, students of Mrs Moxey, who are entered to sit an AMEB Comprehensive examination, participated in Scales Day. This was a great opportunity for them to perform their technical work for each other and their parents and to test the memory of their scales. Congratulations to all participants for their hard work. They all left with a report and a treat from Mrs Moxey and a smile on their face. Mrs Moxey said that most students are well on track for their examinations and hopes they keep working hard on their examination preparation.
Our four string students have had a wonderful time with Mrs Moxey over the past term. On Monday afternoon they entertained 1-2 choir with some of the pieces they have been learning and received their certificate for taking part in the program.
Violins - Will Barrett, Lily Kilby, Arthur Mullins, Morgan Zinga
Last term, students in Year 5 entered a song writing competition for Harmony Day with the theme of ‘Everyone Belongs’. Students spent time in library collating ideas and writing lyrics and then used their time in Music to start creating a melody. Students individually recorded their vocal track into Garageband and Mrs Sinclair mixed the final track.
The judging of this year’s Harmony Day Song Writing Competition is now complete and we have been delighted to learn that Year 5 has won First Prize in the Primary School Section in this year’s competition. There were more than 80 entries from over 250 students in this year’s competition. Wining first prize is a huge achievement.
Mrs Sinclair along with two Year 5 representatives will attend the prize giving ceremony later this month at NSW Parliament.
Our song is attached.
