Creating a Positive Climate for Learning

One of our key school improvement goals in 2021 is to develop and embed a consistent and school-wide approach to ensuring our classrooms are safe, respectful and inclusive. Teachers have been working together in their professional learning communities to discuss and collate common expectations that promote good learning environments. They have participated in a professional learning workshop this term with David Vinegrad to explore how to respond to student behaviours with a strong focus on our school values of respect, resilience, growth and creativity.

These following expectations have also been conveyed to our students through assemblies and posters in every classroom. We will continue to develop our approach throughout the remainder of the year.

Box Hill High School Consistent Classroom and School Expectations

  1. We come to class on time, in uniform, and with the appropriate learning materials.
  2. We keep technology away until teachers give permission to use it.
  3. We are dismissed by the teacher, not the bell.
  4. We keep the classroom and yard clean and tidy.
  5. We use class time effectively to actively listen, participate and complete set tasks.
  6. Staff instructions are followed first time, every time.
  7. We work in a manner where everyone knows the learning intention and aims to achieve the success criteria.
  8. We interact in a positive manner to ensure everyone feels safe and can learn.
