IDAHOBIT DAY

The school community raised awareness for IDAHOBIT Day in May when the quadrangle was filled with colour and activities.  The International Day against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT) aims to celebrate our community’s diversity in sexuality and gender.

Box Hill HS participates in the Safe Schools program which supports all young people to feel safe at school.

All students, regardless of their sexuality or gender, are valued members of our school community, which aims to provide respect, acceptance and tolerance for all.

We spent the day face painting in the style of various pride flags, signing a pledge in support of our LGBTQI+ students and staff, and raising money towards the Zoe Belle Gender Collective.

Students are reminded they are welcome to attend the Q&A Group on Tuesday lunchtimes in the Wellbeing Hub.

Minister Visit BHHS Breakfast Club

We eagerly welcomed the Local Member of Parliament, Paul Hamer who joined our students and Principal Team to enjoy the delicious delights on offer at Breakfast Club.

Foodbank Australia was present as they provide much of the food supplies to allow the service to run.

It was wonderful to have this program recognised and supported by our wider community.

Wellbeing Hub Staff Update

In Term 2 we welcomed Bowen Guan to Box Hill High School as our new Mental Health Practitioner (MHP), joining the Wellbeing Team.

The Department of Education has provided funding for our school to have a Mental Health Practitioner (MHP) who will work according to the needs and priorities of the school, including direct student support and other early intervention services, coordinating support for students with complex needs, and contributing to whole-school approaches to mental health promotion and prevention. Bowen has a social work background and has gained experience working at other schools in the MHP role, so we are lucky to gain her expertise in shaping our wellbeing programs and supporting our students.

Consent Education

Further to the Principal’s letter to families, attached, this term we have commenced focus groups with our senior school students and will continue these throughout Term 3.

We are working closely with our neighbouring high schools and the local council to tackle this issue with the broader community.

Box Hill HS will provide parents with a seminar on the topic of consent and ideas on informing our young people in Term 3.
