Units 3/4 Business Management Excursion to Yakult

On the 19th of May, Units 3&4 Business Management students visited Yakult Factory in Dandenong.   Whilst on the factory tour, students were given the opportunity to observe a manufacturing operations system in action and ask questions about Yakult’s strategies when producing their products.

Units 1/2 Business       Management Market Day          - Student Insights

Recently, the Y11 Business Management cohort participated in Box Hill High School’s annual Mother’s Day Market Stall.

In preparation for the event, three

classes of

students undertook

the process of creating their own business concept to market and conduct on the day. Thorough planning was required, including market research, advertising and promotion, financial accounting, and many other elements, ultimately culminating in the creation of a business plan from each group. There was a range of goods available, such as candles, baked goods, and homemade crafts, and even interactive activities to engage the school community.

The warm and sunny weather proved ideal, despite concerns to the contrary, getting the day off to a positive start. The day began with each group setting up their stalls and goods, putting up decorations and other eye-catching ornaments to attract attention.

When the lunch bell rang, the quadrangle was stormed with crowds of students clamouring for the products.

Each stall saw instant attention and experienced significant success, with all groups breaking even and selling out their stock. Overall, $1,100 in profit was raised, with all of it being donated towards the Royal Children’s Hospital, a charity of the students’ choice. The experience proved to be a complete success and an opportunity to simulate practical, real-world business conduction in a fun and interactive way.

The Mothers' Market Day was a complete success, and our group Jar Mama was completely sold out within the first ten minutes of lunchtime. Though definitely stressful at some points, we had a lot of fun working together and it was a very enjoyable and fun experience where we learnt a lot in the process.

If you can take Business Management as a subject, we would 100% recommend it even if it were just to take part in market day as the experience was well worth it. Thank you to all the teachers who worked hard who helped this day to happen and to get everything organised and approved as well as everyone who bought and supported us all.

Geography Fieldwork

Fieldwork is an essential component of Geography class and a number of trips have been run this semester.

Year 9 students journeyed to Belgrave to explore the impacts and sustainability of tourism in the region.

This included

visiting on a blustery and wet May

morning, to see

what impact

COVID-19 has had on the community. Our classes just managed to squeeze in their trip before the most recent Melbourne lockdown and were able to explore the hilly community as a final adventure before being restricted to online learning from home.

Year 8 students ventured to Brighton and Sandringham to investigate the impacts of coastal erosion on beachside areas.

Year 7 students will explore our schools facilities, rubbish, shade and to explore ways of using geospatial technology to map their observations.

Thank you to our humanities staff members for coordinating these trips and for our other staff members who gave up their time to attend.
