Literacy

April/May is often the time of the year that we see the students demonstrating their understanding of the concepts covered so far, and begin working on their personal learning goals. If you are a parent who assists with reading in the mornings, you may have noticed students beginning to work on different reading levels. Please don't be alarmed if your child is not working at the same pace as some other students in the class. Every child needs the space to work at their own pace and develop in their own time. If you ever have questions about your child's learning, please do not hesitate to come and speak with me.

You can see from these writing pieces that some students are most comfortable copying the teacher's writing, some are beginning to write the first sound of each word and some are developing the confidence to write a sentence. All work is celebrated and we aim to promote a positive attitude towards our learning.

Numeracy

This week the students have been talking about place value. We have made the numbers 11 through to 19 and discussed that the 1 stands for one bundle of ten and the second number tells us how many ones are left over. We made a poster to help visualise what we were talking about.

As you can imagine, celebrating Easter is the topic of conversation at the moment. We have been enjoying some Easter themed activities in Maths this week.

We would like to thank our Grade 6 buddies for making us beautiful Easter baskets. Please visit the Grade 5/6 page of the newsletter to see some photos.

Happy Easter!
Happy Easter!

I hope the children have a well-earned rest and lots of fun over the Easter break.

Enjoy some family time and I look forward to seeing you next term.
