Around Our School

Australian Maths Competition Results
Earlier this term over 500 of our students across all year levels sat the annual Australian Maths Competition. While certificates are not delivered until Term 4, results were available this week and our students performed at an incredibly high standard, with 219 students receiving a Credit Award or higher. Amongst these high achievers were standout performers Amelie Schumann (Year 7), Anastasia Butreva (Year 8), Denzel Wilksch (Year 9), and Georgia Smollen (Year 11), who all scored High Distinction Awards for results in the top 2% of the state.
As a school we are extremely proud, not only of all these students, but also our teaching staff, who strive to teach for deep understanding that allows our students to succeed when confronted by difficult, non-routine problems, such as those found in the this competition. As you can see with this recent upward trend in results, it is certainly making a difference in student outcomes!

Congratulations to all the students involved in our Cabaret Night. Everyone will have a fantastic time and I'm sure that the show will be a sellout!
Congratulations too, to Sebastian Farchione on his performances with the State Schools Spectacular. Sebastian underwent a gruelling rehearsal schedule to be part of this show, which was an outstanding success.

VicSRC
On 15 August 2014, eight Frankston High School students; Bridin Walker, Emily Smith, Danai Harawa, Sam Ilobuchi, Stella Cowan, Eilis Peters, Molly Ash and Ilya Glinin, had the opportunity of attending the VicSRC Congress.
Congress is an annual camp where students from schools across Victoria come together to collaborate on key issues within schools. After many workshops and team building activities, these issues are then turned into proposals, which are then debated upon in a parliamentary style congress. During the congress, the delegates are given the opportunity to voice their opinions and debate on issues.
During the first Congress sitting, Minister Martin Dixon, the Minister of Education, came and addressed all attending delegates who were then given the opportunity to ask him questions and hear what he had to say.
The proposals that were passed during Congress are then worked on over the course of a year by 15 students called The Executive. The 15 students are formally elected during congress by the delegates that attend. A special congratulations to all students that applied, and well done to Danai Harawa and Sam Ilobuchi, for being appointed this position.
All students who attended look forward to bringing back their experiences to our Student Leadership Council. The two day camp was a great opportunity and was found to be very beneficial.
We wish Sam and Danai the best of luck on The Executive and we are very proud to have not one, but two students from Frankston High School being given such an amazing opportunity.

Sally demonstrated her skill and knowledge on decorating scrumptious cupcakes. All the Middle School students had a wonderful experience and learnt invaluable skills from Sally and her assistant from The Cake Cottage.
Great Victorian Bike Ride 2014
You may have seen long lines of students riding around the streets of Frankston and Mt Eliza over the last couple of months. If not, maybe you’ve heard the calls of “car up, car back, slowing, all clear or passing on your right”. If so, then there is every chance that you have witnessed the Frankston High School students training for this year’s Great Victorian Bike Ride. To date we have ridden approximately 200km in preparation. Our first two Sunday training sessions were at Casey Fields Criterium track and our last one was down to Mt Martha and back.
2014 is the 31st year of the Great Victorian Bike Ride. It begins on Saturday, 29 November in Albury, NSW, and finishes on Sunday, 7 December in Lilydale. It takes in much of Victoria’s high country so it will be both spectacular and challenging.
The students, parents and staff have begun training hard in preparation for this gruelling nine day challenge, with most of them aiming to ride over 1,000 kilometres before the event. During our training rides next term we will be riding to St Kilda, the top of Arthurs Seat and down to Sorrento and back. The team of 2014 have already impressed with their riding ability, fitness and road sense.
Over the years we have been extremely fortunate with the support that we have received from our sponsors. We would like to thank Avantplus Frankston for their continued support of our team. This is the third year that they have sponsored our involvement in the Great Victorian Bike Ride. Feel free to drop in and seen Andy and his professional team for any of your biking needs. We will be running a raffle for a bike that has been donated by Avantiplus Frankston early next term. We encourage all members of the Frankston High School community to support our sponsors wherever possible, as their voluntary contribution to the Great Victorian Bike Ride team is greatly appreciated.
We are determined that the team of 2014 will be as successful as our previous groups, which have been widely acknowledged as the leading school group on the road and being awarded the Outstanding School Award in the Great Victorian Bike Ride in 2012.
