Junior School, South Plympton
Art Masters Competition
On Tuesday 4 April, students and staff from our South Plympton Junior School competed in a new competition run by the Year 6 Leaders, called 'Art Masters'. Students and staff created their own artworks at home to enter into the competition. We asked Ms Esther Amoy to be the judge.
We were overwhelmed with the quality and quantity of the artworks.
We received:
- 7 Staff artworks
- 16 Foundation artworks
- 34 Year 1/2 artworks
- 9 Year 3/4 artworks
- 15 Year 5/6 artworks
All Junior School students were invited to come and view the Art Masters gallery.
With a total of 84 artworks, it was a very tough decision to judge, but there could only be a few winners. There was one male and female winner in each year group.
Congratulations to our winners:
- Foundation - Ariel and Ire
- Year 1/2 - Emma and Oliver
- Year 3/4 - Audrey and Andrew
- Year 5/6 - Ava and Giovanni
- Staff - Mrs Alison Winter
Thank you to all the students who participated and the support of staff and parents. A special thanks to Ms Amoy for judging.

Year 3-6 Curriculum Update
In the Junior School we love trying to incorporate thematic teaching into our curriculum! Thematic teaching brings multiple skills, concepts and activities together through a theme or topic, across the curriculum. The benefit of thematic teaching are wide. Students are exposed to a variety of teaching methods and ways of learning, they engage in a deeper understanding of the content and go beyond surface learning. It opens up more creative, authentic and engaging experiences.
The Year 5/6 students have enjoyed studying the classic novel ‘Storm Boy’ by Colin Thiele, this term. As well as studying the novel, classes have looked at; the geography of The Coorong, observed the structure and characteristics of shells and pelicans to create artworks, looked at relevant persuasive writing topics and participated in a variety of other creative activities. Here are a few pictures of our artwork from this topic.
