Health Units in Term 1

Students in Foundation have completed the Health unit of Relationships. We have focused on inclusion of others and feeling left out, working as a team, and listening and responding. We have also continued to develop their emotional literacy using 'Kimochis', that students were familiar with from the ELC. They have identified different feelings and healthy ways to express these.

Students in Years 1 and 2 have completed the Health unit of Personal Differences and Strengths. This topic of work allowed children to recognise how they are different and that these differences should be celebrated. All classes had a talent show to exhibit student strengths. Some of these talents ranged from piano playing to baking to Martial Arts displays.

In Year 3/4 Health, students engaged with the unit of Prepared for Success. We covered motivation, dealing with failure, the importance of having a Growth Mindset and creating SMART goals. Students have a mature grasp of what it takes to succeed when faced with challenges.

Students in Year 5/6 Health started the school year by completing Water Safety both theory and practical as well as learning the importance of being Sun Smart and Road/Bike Safety. The 5/6s ended the term by studying a short drug awareness series of lessons that covered the risks and side effects that caffeine, tobacco and analgesics can have on our bodies.

Sports Day

The Year 3-6 students had an action-packed and fun-filled experience during our annual Sports Day in Week 8. The Year 3-6 students have been practising the various athletic events in PE classes and were able to put their developing skills on display at Sports Day. The athletic events that the students engaged in were long jump, high jump, shot put, discus, the running races (70m or 100m based on year level, the 400m and relays) as well as House novelty events. It was great to see the comradery across both campuses and students cheering each other on to do their best. The students had a lot of fun while making lasting memories together. The House leaders did a great job organising and leading the House chants and they spoke respectfully and graciously at the beginning and end of Sports Day.

Cross Country

Our Year 3-6s also engaged in the annual Cross Country Event on a beautiful day at Bonython Park at the start of Week 10. The Year 3-6s have been practising their long distance running in PE, and it was great to see so many students giving it a go and trying their best. Students ran in groups of varying distances according to their years of birth/age: the 9-year-olds and under ran 1.5kms, the 10-year-olds ran 2kms, and the 11- and 12-year-olds ran 3kms! Students across all year levels encouraged and supported each other throughout the Cross Country event and showed great sportsmanship! Great job, Team ECC!

Grandparents and Special Friends Day

On Tuesday 4 April, we had the privilege of welcoming our grandparents and special friends into our Brooklyn Park Junior School and ELC.

The morning began with a concert from our ELC Class 3 and Preschool children and their Junior School buddy classes, where many smiles were shared as they sang and danced about God’s love for us.

Our students then excitedly welcomed their grandparents into their classrooms and shared in fun learning activities and games. Thank you to our Parent Reps and staff who helped put on a morning tea, where our grandparent community got to know one another and enjoy the sunshine!
