Book Fair

Our Scholastic Book Fair arrived today and will be open for 3 days only, from Tuesday the 16th to Thursday the 18th of May. A parent letter fully explaining the fair, along with a brochure, was sent home with the children last week. A copy is attached below. This year we will have an even bigger range of books, posters, kits and novelty items. The Fair will be open before school, first break, and after school until 4.15pm each day.

Book Fair Parent Letter

From Tuesday the16 th to Thursday the 18 th of May, St. Mary’s Library will be hosting a ScholasticBook Fair. This is a great fundraiser but more importantly, it is an exciting event that focuses onchildren’s literature and promotes independent and shared family reading.

The theme for this year’s fair is “Where Books are Treasure”. Our school library receives 30% -35% commission on all items sold (depending on the total). Last year we received over $1,000worth of books for our library. Our students are involved in the selection of these books.

Items available to purchase will include popular picture fiction, novels, non fiction and activitybooks as well as kits. There will also be a large range of stationary, novelty items and posterspriced from $1.00.

Scholastic has donated a $10 book voucher per class as well as posters and novelty items to beused as prizes. Children will be given a “wish list” ticket to fill in, to nominate a favourite book. I will use these to make lucky draws for each class to award prizes. The children’s choices will alsoguide the selection of commission books.

The Fair will take place for three days and be open, before school (8.30-8.55), first break (10.55 to11.25) and after school from 3.15 to 4.15. Students may bring money to school with parent’spermission and I will guide them in their selection if necessary. Efpos facilities will be available tomake purchasing easier for parents and reduce the amount of time handling cash. Onlinepurchasing will not be an option for the book fair.

In the past, some families have chosen to donate a book to the library from the book fair. A labelinside the cover acknowledges donations with the child’s or family’s name on it. Children donatinga book are the first to borrow that book.

I do emphasise to the children that we do not expect everyone to buy books, so don’t feelpressured in any way to do so. All students are involved in the selection of our commission booksand prize draws.

Thank you for your continued support of our library,
