Thanks to the amazing amount of supporters, spectators, mums, dads, nans and pops who came and encouraged our runners during their race and the helpers that were able to stand at points during the course. Your help is very much appreciated.

Congratulations to the 11 students who qualified to participate in the Diocesan Cross Country Trials which will be held in Barraba next Friday 19 May. Information regarding this event was sent out to families via COMPASS for these students. If there are any questions you may have after reading the note please don’t hesitate to let me know.

Students are to wear only their School Representative shirts and school sports shorts or skorts for the trials. Students are not to wear any other representative uniforms. eg: Diocesan, Polding, PSSA, etc. Competitors can wear skins and/or compression undergarments, though they must be covered with school shorts or a school skort

Students are advised to bring sunscreen and hats to wear at the trials. Please remember to bring adequate water for the day.

Schools are expected to provide 2 parents to act as officials on the day. Please let me know if you are able to assist.

NW Science and Engineering Challenge

Report for Assembly

Gian

On Tuesday, all Year 6 students were invited to participate in the  North West Region Science and Engineering Challenge. This was held in Narrabri at the Crossing Theatre.

The Challenge is designed through fun and practical hands-on activities, to inspire young people about the opportunities available in science, technology and engineering.

Coen

When  we arrived we were split into coloured groups for the day and completed all our challenges in these groups.

Some of our activities included:

Electropolis - this involved building a power network that made profits by powering as many different buildings as possible for a small cost. This was a Rose's favourite activity.

Molly

String-along This activity was all about developing efficient network pathways to join towns by using the least amount of string. There was a lot of trial and error in this activity.

Mars Buggy  involved teams building a simple buggy with a suspension system that allowed a number of loads to be safely conveyed across an undulating Mars surface. Gian enjoyed this activity the best and was a favourite with many boys.

Rose

Earthquake- Coen loved this activity. He got to build a tower that was strong enough to hold weight from above in normal and earthquake conditions. He and his partner Lucas made an impressive structure!

We thank the Rotary Club of Narrabri for providing a free BBQ hamburger lunch to all  students and teachers.

A big thank you to Mrs Goddard for transporting and supervising the students on the day.
