Principal’s Message

Mrs Katherine Baird

Dear Parents and Carers,

It has been another eventful week here at Sacred Heart. Our school community has once again had the opportunity to come together at both school and community events.

The Boggabri Drover's Campfire was held over three days from Friday 28 April to Sunday 30 April. I would like to thank the PTF for organising our contribution to this community event and particularly to Mrs Georgie Carrigan and Mrs Kate Groves who ran their coffee van for the three days to support our school. I would also like to thank all of the volunteers who came to man our tent, make baked goods, sold coffee and cakes, and had a chat with visitors to our town. Events such as the Drover's Campfire are a fantastic opportunity for us to showcase our school in our local and extended communities.

We will hold our next PTF meeting on Tuesday 23 May at 5:30pm - all are welcome. We will also be holding our next School Advisory Council meeting on Tuesday 30 May at 5:30pm.

Congratulations to all of our students for their participation in our school cross country. It was a beautiful day to be at Jubilee Oval supporting our students. Thank you to the many parents for coming to cheer on your children and it was great to see families enjoying the picnic lunch afterwards. Good luck to our students who have qualified to run in Barraba at the Diocesan Cross Country event next week.

We will be hosting our first school/Parish Mass for the term, this Wednesday at 12:30pm at Sacred Heart Church - all are welcome to attend. We will particularly be holding Fr Abmar in our prayers as he has needed to return to the Philippines following the passing away of a colleague, as well as our three Confirmation candidates who are preparing to take part in this important sacrament.

We will be hosting our Mother's Day breakfast this Thursday from 8am. All families are welcome to come and celebrate the special women in our lives. We will also be holding a Mother's Day stall on Friday where students can purchase a special gift for $5 each.

For students in Year 6 there will be a Parent Information evening at St Mary's College tomorrow night Tuesday 9 May from 6-7pm. This is a great opportunity to meet other students and parents of Year 7 for 2024.

With the commencement of Term 2, there will be the change over from summer to winter uniform. There will be a transition period between the two uniforms according to the weather for the first four weeks of Term 2. During this transition period students are either to wear their summer uniform or their winter uniform but not a combination of the two. Please remember that sports jackets are only to be worn with the sports uniform and the new school navy jumper is to be worn with the formal school uniform.

After speaking with all parents involved in the Transition program, we will be postponing transition for Thursday 25 May as the whole school will be involved in the Gunnedah Eisteddfod. We look forward to seeing you back at school on Thursday 1 June.

Transition for 2024 has commenced and we are very happy to welcome our new Kindergarten students for next year.

If you know of anyone wishing to enrol their child for 2024 and participate in the transition program this year, please let me know. Program details and enrolment forms are available by contacting Ms Traynor in the Office.

If you know of anyone who is intending to enrol at Sacred Heart either in Kindergarten or any other year group for 2023, please encourage them to contact me at school.

Happy birthday to Mrs Goddard for Wednesday 10 May.  We hope you have a fabulous day!

Take care,

Kath Baird
