P&C News

I am very pleased to inform you that last week at our Annual General Meeting, we were able to form a P&C Executive Committee! This will ensure the significant contribution our P&C makes to our school can continue.

Congratulations to our new P&C Executive Committee:

President: Brooke Hawley

Vice President: Andrew Caley

Treasurer: Phoebe O’Reilly – Rowe

Secretary:  Amy Lowe

A huge thank-you to our outgoing P&C Executive Ellyse, Shannon, Elise, Anna, Lizzie and Nicolina. These ladies made significant contributions to our school, and were amazing to work with. Thank-you for your outstanding commitment to the children at Palm Beach SS. Also thank-you to all current P&C and sub-committee members for your hard work and dedication.

Our school looks forward to continuing to work with our P&C to ensure we achieve the best outcomes for our students.

Cross Country

This year’s cross country was a huge success! How lucky we are with our location to be able to run this event on Palm Beach. The atmosphere was fantastic and the weather held off long enough for us to complete all events. Thank you to all of the parents and families who turned up to cheer your kids on and create such an amazing school community event. Our student leaders did an outstanding job encouraging all other students to participate and lead by example.

All students tried exceptionally hard on the challenging course and it was great to see some very close-run races and high levels of competition but more importantly, even higher levels of sportsmanship.

A huge thanks to our P&C for their purchase of our new sports house tents featuring updated logos and Yugambeh language for our houses.

Thank you to Mr Locke and Mr Martin for organising this event.

Social Worker

Great news, we have a new Social Worker at our school. Jacinta holds extensive experience working with children and families and is a registered Senior Social Worker. Jacinta has worked across multiple States and Territories primarily in child protection and disability sectors for close to 18 years. Jacinta has a passion for inclusion and is committed to seeing our community reach its full potential. In her work, Jacinta will be connecting with students who may require additional support and our local school community with parental consent.

The Social Worker’s primary focus will be children attending our school who maybe experiencing mild to moderate mental health and supporting their wellbeing at school. Jacinta will be at Palm Beach State School on Mondays and Tuesdays during the school term.

Please note this is a service which is only available within school hours and is not a crisis service after hours. If you are unsure if your child meets the criteria or if our school Social Worker could assist please contact the office for a request to have an initial phone call with Jacinta.

Please pop in to introduce yourself and welcome her to our school family. Jacinta will be based in the wellbeing hub in our new building.

ANZAC Day

Our school paid our respects to our service men and women this year with a moving ANZAC ceremony on Monday. Our students were exceptionally well behaved during this commemoration and our school leaders did an excellent job running this event. During the assembly, our choir performed and they were unbelievable! Thank you Mrs Riordan!

On ANZAC Day on Tuesday, we had 72 students march to represent Palm Beach SS at the Currumbin RSL Anzac Day March. Well done Palm Beach SS!

Thank you to Quinn, Callum and their grandfather Mr Laurie Farrugia who represented our school and laid our wreath at the ANZAC Service following the Currumbin RSL March. Thank-you Laurie for your service!

Winter Uniform

With the colder weather approaching, please information about our winter uniform from the Palm Beach State School Dress Code and Appearance Policy below.

•             In winter months students may wear a plain navy blue sweatshirt (no hood) over the                   official school uniform and plain navy tracksuit pants.

•             Navy leggings and tights may be worn under the skort NOT on their own

Playgrounds

Please remember that all playgrounds are out of bounds before and after school. Even with parental supervision, students and their siblings are not permitted to play on this equipment. This is again to ensure the safety of students on our school grounds.

Guidance Officer Week

This week, the Department of Education Queensland celebrates 75 years of guidance support in Queensland state school communities. Guidance officers provide counselling and advice on educational, career, personal, mental health and wellbeing issues for students. We would like to thank Mrs Natalie Morris our Guidance Officer here at Palm Beach. Thank you Nat for all you do for the staff and students at PBSS!

QEW Survey

Over the next 3 weeks, students in Years 4 to 6 will be asked to take part in the Queensland Engagement and Wellbeing (QEW) Survey.

We know that wellbeing and engagement are important parts of your child’s life at school. The QEW Survey is designed to measure how students view their wellbeing and engagement across different topics. The information we get from the survey helps us better understand and support our students.

An information letter will be sent out to parents and carers closer to the time. If you have any questions, please contact the school. More information, including FAQs, can be found on the Education website: https://qed.qld.gov.au/publications/reports/statistics/schooling/students/queensland-engagement-wellbeing-survey

Report Card Feedback

Semester One report cards will be sent home at the conclusion of this term.

We would like to hear from parents about what they value and would like to see in our Palm Beach SS report cards.

We invite interested parents to a feedback session with the leadership team on Friday 5th May at 2:00pm in the PAC to provide us with your thoughts on what is working well with our reports and how they could be improved to provide you with the information most relevant to you.

We look forward to hearing from you at this session.
