Year 9 School for Student Leadership

Tackling new challenges

We have been excited to welcome back five of our Year 9 students to the school community after a term away at the 'School for Student Leadership'.

Harry Fallon, Hamish Prendergast, Lyndsay Mackenzie, Kailee Short and Archie Kirby took on the challenges of leaving their family and friends for nine weeks during Term 1. The program provided these students with the chance to work with approximately 40 of their peers from other government schools, developing their teamwork, confidence, resilience, leadership and so much more.

They took part in many challenging activities such as canoeing, caving, mountain bike riding, surfing and hiking.

They also completed expeditions which involved hiking and canoeing around locations such as Yeerung River and Mount Raymond, sometimes covering distances up to 16km, in a day all whilst carrying heavy packs.

When asked about the best parts of the programs, Lyndsay and Hamish identified the confidence they gained in public speaking and in interacting with new people. They commented that the hardest part of the whole experience was not being away from their family and friends (as they had expected) but rather leaving behind their new friends at the end.

Welcome back Harry, Hamish, Lyndsay, Kailee and Archi. We are sure you will treasure your experiences in this program but our school community is a better place with you back.
