Humanities

Students in Years 7, 8, and 9 are coming to the end of their civics units. The Year 7's have shown a great understanding of all the different aspects of Australian culture and identity. The Year 8's are powering through the Australian governmental system and have almost finished creating their Australian Bills of Rights.

The Year 9's have completed their global citizenship issue kits and demonstrated some really insightful and creative responses to the UN sustainable development goals. Next term they are very excited to be moving on to geography!

We have also been very fortunate to have an additional Humanities class running for the Year 9's this year as part of their Thursday electives program. Students have been studying myths and legends in history and completing folio tasks for each topic. Below you can see a map of the possible locations of El Dorado, fact sheets on some of the secret societies students investigated, and a very impressive drawing and profile of a mapinguary from our study of mythological creatures. Hopefully they are as excited as I am for next term when we get to explore how myths and legends have been adapted by modern pop culture.

In the senior school, the Year 12 Legal Studies students got to visit the courts in Melbourne with Ms O’Brien. The legal studies excursions are a highlight of the year for students in Years 10 to 12.
