A note from the Principal
Hello everyone
I hope you enjoy this edition of ‘Healesville High Connections’. In looking over this newsletter I am struck by just how much is happening every day at this school. The reports contained within this edition highlight two things, I believe. They show the enthusiasm with which our students embrace opportunities offered to them and they show the absolute dedication of the staff at our school to offer SO MANY opportunities to our students.
Within this publication you will read about the outstanding instrumental music program led by Amanda Morrison, as well as reports on interschool sports of many types, capably and enthusiastically coordinated by Kerry Davies; and about outstanding classroom programs in humanities and art, to name but a few.
The outdoor education program offered by Nic Skewes is of the highest quality and the amount of time outside of working hours he spends in providing outdoor education experiences to students is huge. Equally, staff members regularly offer to attend year level camps which take them away from their homes for days at a time. Our Year 7 students are currently on a three-day camp in Yellingbo, the Year 9 cohort leaves for their five-day camp to Rubicon next week and the Year 8 camp was held earlier this year.
To our students- thank you for embracing the opportunities on offer. School life provides so many experiences and it is pleasing to see students taking full advantage of these.
To the staff members of Healesville High School- thank you! These extra experiences would not be possible without your dedication and your willingness to work far beyond your job description.
I am grateful that ‘Connections’ allows us to share some of the exiting achievements of our students.
I especially enjoyed reading about the Year 9 students who spent all of term one at the School for Student Leadership, Marlo campus. This program is incredibly challenging and equally, incredibly rewarding for students involved. A grateful thank you to Mr Holland for introducing this program to our school and for continuing to support it.
Congratulations to the ‘Stars’ for this week- Ava, Josh, and Ella.
Thank you and special congratulations to Connor Fallon and Natalia Macpherson-Daykin, the school captains, who read poems and represented this school with distinction at the recent ANZAC Day dawn service in Healesville. Congratulations to the members of the school band who also featured in the service.
I will take this opportunity to alert you to several significant upcoming dates and events.
The Senior Formal will be held on Friday July 14th at the Karralyka Centre in Ringwood.
This year’s Production, Frozen Jnr is not to be missed and performances are scheduled for the evening of Thursday August 31st, Friday September 1st, and Saturday September 2nd. A matinee performance will also be held on the Saturday.
Pupil-free days will occur on Thursday July 20th and Friday August 18th. The first of those is a staff professional practice day and the second is to be dedicated to whole-staff curriculum development. Your understanding of the need for such days is appreciated.
As always, thank you for the goodwill, support and care shown by so many within our school community.
Best wishes everyone.
