ANZAC Day

Thank you to our four wonderful school captains Ella, Summer and Ben, who joined me last Tuesday morning for the Mitcham ANZAC Day Dawn Service, Ella, Summer and Ben had the great honour of reading aloud the thought-provoking poem ‘In Flanders’ Field’, and respectfully laid a wreath in remembrance, on behalf of all the Mitcham Primary School community.

Mitchkids

Our first MITCHKIDS playgroup for the year was held this morning. It was lovely to see lots of pre-schoolers leaving with big smiles and happily carrying their Mitchkids bags and crafts made during the morning. A big thank you to Mrs Wood and the team of Grade 5/6 student helpers that make our Mitchkids Playgroup so special. Our next Mitchkids playgroup will be in a fortnight on Friday 19th May 10-11am.

Education Week

This year Victoria will celebrate Education Week from Sunday 14 May to Saturday 20 May.

This year’s theme is ‘Active Learners: Move, Make, Motivate’, which celebrates physical activity, hands-on learning and student voice in education.

 

We have lots of wonderful activities planned at Mitcham Primary School for Education Week, so many in fact that we are starting one week early, our events include the following:

  • An opportunity for students to ‘move, make and motivate’ with ‘The World of Robotics’ educators, Kevin and Pauline Taylor. Students from Grade Prep - 6 will have the opportunity to participate in a two-and-a-half-hour enrichment activity designed to immerse children in the world of robotics and extend the base knowledge that they have already acquired in this area of Science and Technology. 
  • A THRASS parent information evening will be held this coming Tuesday 9th May from 7-8pm.
  • A 2024 Prep Information Evening on Tuesday 9th May. 
  • Our much-loved annual Grandparents/Special Persons’ Morning 10 -11am on Monday 15th May. 
  • An open school council meeting/AGM will be held on Tuesday 16th May, during this meeting we will reflect on highlights from 2022 and share our academic goals for 2023, our Wellbeing Coordinator, Laura Ellis, will also be presenting details of our Mitcham Primary School approach to student wellbeing.
  • A working open morning on Thursday 18th May from 10 - 11 am.
  • Open evening on Thursday 18th May from 5 -7 pm. 
  • A THRASS themed Dress Up day on Friday 19th May.

School Enrolments for 2024, Prep Information Evening and Open Day

Our school is receiving many applications for both our Montessori and Mainstream programs, so if you have children already at Mitcham Primary School and a little one about to start Prep next year, please contact the office and enrol now. Or if you know of a friend whose child is at kindergarten, and is expecting them to start here in 2024, please let them know that enrolments are being taken now and if they would like a tour of the school to please contact the office.

 

This coming Tuesday 9th May we will be hosting our Prep 2024 Information Evening from  6:00pm -7:00pm in the school Library. We are also hosting a working open morning on Thursday 18th May from 10:00am -11:00am and then an Open Evening also on Thursday 18th May 5:00 -7:00pm, we would welcome all our families and friends of Mitcham Primary to visit the school, explore classrooms, celebrate and chat with our staff about all the wonderful opportunities and programs we offer.
