Technology

Food, Textiles, Agriculture and Health

Term 2 Technology has begun with students engaging positively with new learning opportunities in Foods and Textiles.

Firstly, thank you to the Year 5/6 students who made over 200 ANZAC biscuits to share with the Edenhope community on ANZAC Day. An incredible effort Year 5/6 students, well done!

Year 9/10 Café Culture

It has been lovely to welcome back the Leadership students to Café Culture this term. The Cafe Culture students continue to shine and it is magnificent to see them displaying MasterChef qualities in the styling and presentation of their food. This week students produced Sushi Cups, where students served the rice and chicken in a nori cup accompanied by avocado, kewpie mayonnaise and Sriracha mayonnaise. As you will see in the photos, the students Sushi Cups were styled with care and attention to detail and presented to commercial café quality! Keep up your amazing work Café Culture students.

Year F/1/2 Technology – Foods

The Mini MasterChef’s were very excited to be in the Food Technology room, some for the very first time at Edenhope College. Students began by setting up an experiment to look at why we need to wash our hands before preparing and eating food. The students will share their results with you over the coming weeks. They have predicted that most ‘germs’ will be found on the table, door handle, and computer keyboard. After washing their hands and checking to see how well they washed them using GlitterBug Potion, students were then able to see how well they had washed their hands under the UV light!

This week students were learning about how to spread ingredients to make an Apple and Celery Snail. Students spread the ricotta in the celery, and then placed a raspberry on top for the head. They then carefully spread two tiny dots of ricotta so they could stick currants on for the eyes. To finish their snail they placed a slice of apple to form the shell. Students thoroughly enjoyed their first production and as you can see in the photos, they were very proud of the Apple and Celery Snails.

Year 5/6 Technology – Textiles

The Year 5/6 students displayed great enthusiasm and creativity with their learning in Textiles this week. They carefully chose their materials for their special stitching project which they were highly engaged doing. They will look forward to sharing these with you during the term.

Year 8 Technology – Textiles

This term students will be developing their knowledge and understanding of how to use a Commercial Pattern to construct their own Boxer Shorts. To complement their Boxer Shorts, they will produce a Mood Board to inspire their design ideas, to design and produce a swing tag to attach to their Boxer Shorts. This week students have been able to investigate different parts of the Commercial Pattern and identify the different pattern markings and what they mean so they are able to cut out their Boxer Shorts correctly ready to sew!
