Wellbeing
Dear Edenhope College Community,
Welcome to Term 2! I would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone of the importance of prioritising emotional regulation strategies for our overall wellbeing this term.
The past year and a half has been a challenging time for everyone, and has highlighted the significance of taking care of our mental health and emotional wellbeing. At Edenhope College, we are committed to supporting our students to build resilience and maintain their mental health and wellbeing, and we encourage everyone to take advantage of the opportunities available to them to engage in emotional regulation strategies.
One effective strategy for managing emotions is the Zones of Regulation program. This program teaches children and young people to identify and categorise their emotions into four zones: the blue zone (low energy), green zone (calm and focused), yellow zone (heightened emotions), and red zone (intense emotions). By recognising which zone they are in, students can then use specific strategies to regulate their emotions and move back into the green zone.
We recognise that every student is unique and may have different needs when it comes to emotional regulation, which is why we offer a range of opportunities and support services, including access to the Zones of Regulation program, individualised support, and mental health and wellbeing programs.
Finally, we would like to remind everyone of the importance of making emotional regulation a priority this term. Let's work together to create a culture of emotional regulation and wellbeing, and support each other to maintain a healthy and balanced lifestyle.
We wish all students a successful and fulfilling term ahead, filled with opportunities to engage in emotional regulation strategies and build resilience. Remember, our wellbeing is an ongoing journey, and we are here to support you every step of the way.
To support this at home, parents and carers may be interested in watching the following webinar on managing anxiety at home, provided by Wellio, who are the organisation that supports our Year 7-10 students during pastoral care.
Thanks,
Ben Kilby
