College News

Welcome to Term 2, a short 9 week term. There are lots of exciting things happening over the next 8 weeks (in week 3 already), with three camps, multiple excursions, sporting events and learning in amongst all that activity.

Student/Staff Return

It was great to see staff and students return last week, looking refreshed from the break. We have a fantastic staff at Edenhope College who are consistently looking to provide opportunities for our students. We’re always looking at ways to build communication between the school learning environment and home so please feel free to give the school a ring anytime you have any questions or you simply want to talk to your child’s teacher. We’re definitely looking to continue building communication home from our end. Interim reports at the end of week 4 will be part of that communication.

Ex-student Hayley Grigg has won a significant prize after completion of her second year in her Bachelor of Agricultural Sciences at Roseworthy College in Adelaide. She won the Daniel Livingston Prize for having the highest aggregate in Year 2 of the Bachelor of Agricultural Sciences. Mum Jodie was full of praise for Edenhope College, especially the staff who have helped Hayley on the journey.

Student Agency

Three students just came back from a three day Melbourne leadership camp. I picked up the students at the Ballarat train station last Friday and when we were traveling home they told me how much they enjoyed the camp. They Rural Youth Ambassadors Camp gave them the experience of working with other students from around the state, all from rural areas. They have another three visits down to Melbourne over the year and they’re really looking forward to that and I’m looking forward to what they can bring back to the school in a way of leadership.

School for Student leadership

Another student leadership opportunity took place over Term 1 with four Year 9 students attending Dinner Plains School for Student leadership. The four students were away for nine weeks and they got to share their camp and all their activities with like-minded students from other schools from around the state. Later in the year will have another batch of Year 9 students go to another Leadership Camp, so there’s plenty of opportunities in the student agency area which is great.

Student Instrumental

This year we’ve reintroduced instrumental for students who want to play the guitar, clarinet and other instruments. Cassie Stringer and Sarah Hinge are the teachers who are making their time available to students and the uptake has been very good with 13 students taking up the opportunity.

Cystic Fibrosis

A big shout out goes to the CF team who raised over $3,200 through the canteen and student/staff donations. Mollie and Braithan arranged the CF day events while mum Belinda cooked up a storm for the canteen. Mollie and Braithan also spoke to the ABC Breakfast Show and they were amazing how they related their CF knowledge. I did my part to help raise money by buying three slices of the freshest sponge cake for breakfast on the day of the school sports. I had to do two laps of the lake that day to even things out!
