Secondary Update

The Secondary students had an amazing start to the year, embracing new peers, staff and learning spaces as well as role modelling our school values through being learners, safe and respectful.

Curriculum

In Secondary, we have been engaging in learning activities focusing on the following areas of the curriculum Maths, English, Geography and Health. Students enjoyed collecting data and asking their peers interest-based questions in Maths. We created a secondary data display of all our birthdays to find the most popular month. Students showed their creative and problem-solving skills when they participated in pattern work. In English we continued to work on our spelling skills and completed learning experiences based on our focus texts, Possum Magic and Home.

Students were exposed to the different characteristics of places and compared different locations from local to global scale in Geography. They examined the different states within Australia and some famous landmarks you may see in each state. In Health, students participated in lessons that focused on how individuals experience changes associated with puberty, the different parts of the body and how our emotions can influence decision making.

Music Therapy and Band

Each week, students across the Secondary cohort look forward to music with Bingyao. They have been learning how to use instruments through experimental play and when playing along with Bingyao. In Senior Secondary, students have been practicing singing songs they have chosen collaboratively, for example 'I'm a believer' from Shrek, 'Perfect' by Ed Sheeran and 'Mama Mia' by Abba. We are all looking forward to what our songs could be for this term!

Easter Celebrations

It was wonderful to see all the students supporting one-another during the Easter celebrations. Encouraging and helping their peers while trying to find the eggs hidden by the Easter Bunny. We even had a very special visit from the Easter Bunny.

ANZAC Day

This week we have all been learning about the significance of ANZAC Day. Classrooms have been reading texts that focus on what ANZAC Day means and that everyone connects with the day differently. There were discussions about events we remember individually, as a family or as a community. These texts included 'Lest We Forget' and 'ANZAC Ted'. Some classes made poppies or made some ANZAC biscuits.
