From The Principal

PRINCIPALS MESSAGE

Dear parents and carers,

Welcome back to term two and with the Anzac Day holiday on Tuesday 25th it has been a short week for all of us. We are looking forward to a terrific term of learning and activity for our students. Wednesday we had a special Anzac Day tribute here at school supported by School Captain Angus Clifford to acknowledge and pay our respects to those who have served and died in wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations.

Shade Sail Installation

People who have been onsite recently will have noticed that shade sails are being installed at the front area of the school. We also have two others, in the central courtyard and Secondary yard. They are being erected in stages and we expect the shade cloths to be fitted on Monday 15 May. Parent and carers that use the Foundation gate to pick-up and drop-off students please be aware that you may be notified about different arrangements necessary on this date. We are looking forward to the shade these installations will provide.

Education Week and Prospective Parent 2024 Information Night

This year, Education Week runs from Sunday 14 to Saturday 20 May. The theme Active Learners: Move, Make, Motivate celebrates the many ways students learn, through physical activity, hands on learning and student voice. Education Week is an opportunity for our school to celebrate and share with you how we encourage our students to be active learners. Our school is proud to encourage active learners through a wide range of programs. You will be notified of any special activities during this week.

We will be holding a Prospective Parent/Carer 2024 Information Night on Monday 15 May at 5:30pm for any for potential future families and support workers to hear about our school, what’s great about our school, programs we provide and undertake a tour of our facilities. See attached flyer.

Attitudes to School Survey – 2023

The Attitudes to School Survey will be offered to students in years 4 – 12 to complete online from 1May to 9 June 2023. This survey is conducted annually and participation is voluntary. ORIMA Research Pty Ltd has been contracted by the department to administer the Survey.

Education Support Staff Day

On Tuesday 16 May we will be celebrating the significant contribution, hard work and dedication of all our Education Support Staff. Our school couldn’t function without these amazing members of our team. We hope they enjoy this special day.

Staffing Update

Andrea Hobson has commenced as a part-time teacher in Upper Primary Purple, Wednesday to Friday. She is now sharing the class with Lacey Pietsch.

Nadine Haynes has been appointed as the new Education Support in Early Primary Yellow, Thursday and Friday. She will commence next week. We thank Georgia Young for her work during the past six weeks. We are continuing to recruit for a replacement teacher for Junior Secondary Green. We hope to have this finalised shortly. Bianca Tyler will be the temporary teacher for the first three weeks of term two. We are also recruiting to replace teacher Olivia Couch who will commence Parental Leave from 15 May.

May/June Principal Class Conferences

Over the next few weeks, the Assistant Principals and myself will be attending a number of  Principal Class Conferences. These events are an important opportunity to learn about the latest evidence-based practices in educational leadership, inclusion and curriculum design. We are looking forward to sharing our learnings with staff upon completion and are grateful for members of the school leadership team for leading the school in our absence.

School Council April Update

An Extraordinary School Council meeting was held on 26 April to endorse the 2022 Hamlyn Views School Annual Report. The Report will now be submitted to the Department of Education for final approval. Once this has happened, a Public Meeting will be held where the 2022 Annual Report will be presented to the school community. You will be notified of the date for this meeting.

Yours sincerely.
