Assistant Principal's Report

Miss Carly Epskamp

Wow, we are almost halfway through Term Two. There have been so many exciting things happening at DPS over the last few weeks. Lots of opportunities for students to tap into their areas of interest and add to the overall school experience. Well done to all of our DPS students on a wonderful week.

Education Week

Education Week is an annual celebration of education in Victoria. This year Victoria are celebrating Education Week from Sunday 14 May to Saturday 20 May. The theme this year is ‘Active Learners: Move, Make, Motivate’, which celebrates physical activity, hands-on learning and student voice in education. To celebrate Education Week at DPS, we had an Open Classroom afternoon on Monday. We had a HUGE turnout and lots of visitors came to DPS and joined us inside our classrooms. Thank you to all of those who came and celebrated with us, we loved having you onsite.

Grandparents Day

We are so excited about having all of the DPS grandparents and special visitors at our school on Friday morning. Grandparents are welcome to come into our classrooms from 10:00am - 11:00am and join us for an activity and then stay for some morning tea with the teachers from 11:00am – 11:30am in the Junior Building. We are excited to show all of the Grandparents and special friends our wonderful school.

Grade Five Respectful Relationships Student Forum

On Tuesday, I went to a Student Forum with 4 of our fabulous Level Five students: Elijah, Frank, Edward and Zoey. We were joined by other Manningham schools and their student representatives. It was a great day for the students to network and discuss the respectful relationships that they share at their own schools. There we discussed our school wide approach to Wellbeing and evaluated it’s effectiveness (from a student perspective). Later in the day, we were able to look at some student data that circled around inclusiveness and connectedness. The Level Five students created an Action Plan of activities that they felt they could organise and introduce to make sure every single student at DPS felt connected with the school, their teacher and their peers. The groups intention is to include everyone, which is a simple and clear, yet effective message. I look forward to meeting with this group in a week or so to start to work on some of these actions.

I was incredibly proud of the way these Level Five students contributed to the group discussions and put their opinions and ideas forward in a confident manner. They were a delight to work with and other schools were extremely complimentary of their attitude, behaviour and habits. Well done Elijah, Frank, Edward and Zoey!

Cross Country

On Wednesday all of the students participated in the Cross Country Event at DPS. It ended up being a beautiful day and the weather allowed the students to all run comfortably throughout the day. A big THANK YOU to Mr Spinks for organising the event, it was a fabulous day. Thank you to all of the teachers who had a role on the day and the parents for their support as well. I have included some pictures of the day, which show how much fun the students were having.

Child Safety and Wellbeing at Doncaster Primary School

The Victorian Government has announced new Child Safe Standards to further strengthen child safety across organisations, including schools. The new standards recognise the critical importance of families and the broader school community in maintaining and promoting child safety and wellbeing.

Doncaster Primary School has reviewed and updated our child safety policies and procedures to ensure they meet the requirements of the new standards. These are available to view on our your school’s website and at the front office.

We are committed to continuous improvement in our approach to child safety and wellbeing and welcome feedback from families and members of our school community on ways we can further strengthen our child safety policies, procedures and practices.

If you have any suggestions, comments or questions, please contact the school office on 9848 1122.
